How much is the 60K service om MY2000? I know this includes the cambelt change so may do that sooner to spread the cost.
Also how much to change front discs & pads?
Cheers

My MY00 requires a cam belt at 45,000 according to the handbook and SIDC FAQ etc.....

Are you sure it never had a belt done at 45k?

Get it done and get it in writing about the cam belt from the servicing garage, I lost an RB5 through one going at 50K! The car's now written off.... It will also help if you keep the receipt for selling on the car.

My MY00 went in last month for its 3 year service at a mileage of about 41K. According to the servicing schedule in the book, it should have a cambelt at 3 years or 45K (whichever comes first). I pointed this out to the dealership (Tileys in Bristol) and they told me that they had checked and that my car was covered by a directive received either from Subaru UK or FHI that MY00 cars and later now have a cambelt change interval of 60K.

I'm still going to write to Subaru UK and get it confirmed in writing, though, just in case anything horrible happens. Having previously had a cambelt let go on an old BMW (result: 9 bent valves and a 1000 quid bill!) I'm not keen to repeat the experience...

So although the service books, and the SIDC FAQ and Steve Breens IWOC all say 45,000 miles for the cam belt, the dealers are now saying 60k for the MY00 car's??? What is different from a MY99 and MY00?????

Hmmmmmm, something amiss here I think......

Why not just get it (cambelt) done anyway if you are so bothered. After all it's no skin off the dealers nose as you are paying and it's your choice.
When I got mine it had just had 90k service, cambelt etc (as per 45k service) but not fluids (as per 30k service). The seller said he had argued this with the dealer, that 30 goes into 90 - to no avail. Well that's all well and good, but we are the customers, so just ask for it to be done, pay for it and keep receipt for service history - simple.

Interesting.... Wonder why no one except the dealers publish this change to intervals??

Still leaves me wondering why a MY99 needs it at 45k, but a post MY00 can wait till 60k? That doesn't make sense...

Anyway, I'm not complaining as my MY00 has 36k on the clock, and I thought the belt would need done in about 9 months, but if its looking more like 2 years then chances are I won't still have the car. Cool!

The difference between MY99 and MY00 is because there is a different type of cambelt and tensioners. At least, that is what my dealer (in BElgium) told me.
As far as I kniw, none of the MY00 sold by him had problems under the 60k with their cambelts, even when driving hard.
On the other way, I have mine changed at 50k, 80000kms...
Just to be sure...

Hi,
Just to add a bit more confusion, i recently purchased a MY99 (sept 99) RB5 from a dealer. Full receipts for everything except the 45k cambelt change, which i queried with the parts department as i thought it should have been done. They looked it up and said that Subaru changed it to 60k at some point in 1999. Luckily for me this was the service they were doing before i picked it up. Made sure they stamped the book and signed that the cambelt was done at 60k service though.

Subaru UK changed the interval for cambelt renewal for 00MY's to 60k - fact.

The 99MY engine is exactly the same but the official change interval is 45k.

Cool

& talizman you milage is not what you should be going on as it's 45k or 3 years & MY00 will be 3 years old by my reckoning so depending on when it started life big service should be on the cards necxt if not already done
Si (similarly skint after 90k un on me MY97)

Apologies for the poor picture but this is the service schedule from a MY00, showing Cambelkt change at 4 years/60K there are a few other minor changes too

Cool

But as already hinted at most people still do it at 45k thru common sense & being risk adverse

Red face

Anyhow back to the question asked.

I had mine done a couple of months ago with new front pads. Bill was a gobdropping £780.00. Asked scoobynetters to see if I was ripped off but the response seemed like it was a bit high but not OTT. Also spoke to another dealer without giving any indication of what I was charged earlier and was quoted around 550 exc Vat just for the service.

Breaks me 'art to get rid of hard earned just like that but hey in the end its worth it.

I just had the 60k service (without cambelt as was done at 45k) on MY99, and the service cost me £480 (no air filter as have ITG). Also had replacement front pads which were £117 inc VAT and total was going to come to £680 inc fitting the pads. As the dealer over booked themselves and kept the car overnight they reduced price to £550 inc VAT and SIDC discount for service and pads - I was very pleased.
