DO IT!

Thanks to The Power Station guys..... I must admit I was a bit of a sceptic, but since I've had it done I've been grinning

Hardly worth it on the road though surely?

Lol at somebody saying they lost in a spirited drive against a Scooby with this mod.

One of the best mods you can do. Worth fitting the Whiteline solid anti roll bar links too. It complements the Powerstation setup.

Spoon: drive a car that's had it done, then say that!

I've driven 3 now, including my own car as of a couple of weeks ago. It's instantly noticeable and it sharpens up the responses no end. Straight-ahead floatiness on motorways is gone, and understeer on roundabouts is massively reduced - the front end just grips and grips, like it was supposed to!

If you don't think it'll make any difference on the road, remember this:

Track: smooth
Road: bumpy

Disagree Andy, but then i've never ben a follower of fashion.

We are talking about the road, understeer, what's that, come on?

Come from the old school of 500+ bhp on standard suspension.

Everybody to their own hey.

Don't know spoon, don't know anybody, but I do know I can get understeer on the road and I'm not especially quick. I've just had bumpsteer/droplinks (+springs) and the car is transformed. Miles more positive feedback&grip/less floaty uncertainty&scrub

I have a Prodrive WR Sport with the full prodrive suspension.

Lowered, eibach springs(?) etc..

Would this have had the bump steer treatment? Or something Prodrivey similar ?

Spoon,

I was of much the same opinion when I first drove a car with the bumpsteer mod, but it definitely makes a difference that you can appreciate even without driving it hard. The car feels more stable and better keyed to the road, especially at motorway speeds.

Even so, I think you're missing out on a little of what owning a scooby is all about. Next time you find a suitably quiet roundabout and want to turn right, try approaching it a bit faster than usual. Turn in a bit harder. Fun? Good.

Now try a bit faster again. Feel the steering go a bit light? Find yourself backing off to make the car tighten its line and get you round? That's understeer. If you had the bumpsteer mod, you'd be rearranging the contents of your boot and enjoying serious lateral acceleration and a gentle chirp from all four tyres right now.

Still not convinced? Don't bother. Spend the money on 3 tanks of fuel instead. Or a year's road tax. Or a few weeks' insurance. It doesn't sound so expensive now, does it?

A.

Andy, as I said, not on the road do I see any hint of understeer at any speed.

I can run into a bend at all speeds and hug the line I want.

You know, maybe I already have the mod in that case and don't know.

Mind you, who has it done on a JDM because I think these are far more direct than a UK model.

Edited to say, expense doesn't come into it, if it's as good as you rave then £1000 wouldn't be dear now would it?

p.s having raced cars and bikes and driven much faster road cars I'm not talking out the top of my hat.
Also, mine is as stable as dart on motorways.

Spoon what MY do you have? AFAIK, Subaru dialled in understeer into every production car so I'm surprised you say you don't see any regardless of speed

Of course, you can drive around understeer if you know how, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

Stefan

P.S. I can get my car to understeer when I want it to

Does anyone know of anywhere in the north east that fits this kit or where I can buy one mail order so I can get it fitted locally?

Im thinking of getting this mod but was wondering if this will effect tyre wear ?.
I had the prodrive geometry set up where i think they toe the wheels in a little, this did virtually cure the understeer but ate a new set of 18s in 2500 miles. Have had it laser alligned with the new tyres which do seem to be wearing better, but understeer is awfull.
Hows tyre wear been for you guys with the bump steer mod ?

AFAIK, the only two places that do this are PowerStation and Star Performance in Glenrothes, Scotland.

It's not mail order because the have to add shims to the steering arm which can vary depending on how far yours is out.

I suppose, in theory, any mechanic could do this mod if they had the right shims and new what to set the car to.

I've been told that you can achieve the same result from setting the geometry and there's no need for the bumpsteer mod. How true is this statement is open to debate.

I disagree with that philosophy. My car was A/OK with geometry, and I drove it for a while...... I had the bumpsteer done, and my car's a different beast.

I guess it's partly true in that some negative camber will reduce understeer and the wheels won't splay out as much under braking. Similar to Bumpsteer, but maybe doesn't go as far and has the added bonus of excess tyre wear ????

I have had eibachs fitted and geometry done at TSL and it made a big difference, would bumpsteer fix complement what I already have had done ??... bearing in mind I have a "nicely sideways thank you sir" Type R ??

No prodrive do not do anything similar. If you have prodrive suspension, I believe this consists of Eibach springs, with matched Bilstein shocks & STI dampers.

This mod has been around for ages, its well documented to be worth wile

If you don’t have it, GET IT, i did and it made a massive improvement to the horrible under steering monster i called an imprezza

If you aint heard about it, then you aint been here for long

Search for it
Get it sorted
Grin Grin Grin

Spoon, if you aint got any under steer, then it probably means your car is sorted in the suspension area (properly set up- probably with the mod)

OR

You aint driving in a way that illustrates it (no offence as most of my under steer came from Low speed tight corners- on the fast ones it was fine)

Try taking it to a roundabout late at night, and drive around it pushing quite hard, you’ll probably discover the under steer.

I tested mine in a car park and it was so obvious it just understeer on hard turns.
