Fiat coupe v scoob
#1
My mate has a fiat coupe turbo (airbox & high flow exhaust, rest standard) which he reckons would leave my 99 turbo (standard) standing. Before the inevitable happens will he give me a fright ? He has conceded that it is no match on the twisties

In a straight line race he will maul you unless you are happy to launch of the line. From a rolling start and in particular the 60-100mph incriment the fiat is quicker. There have been lots of threads on this so have a search through them

MY96 with Scooby sport full system with Panel filter was not alot faster in a straight line than a standard 20v Turbo. Or appeared to be standard anyway.
He seemed supprised when he had to move out of my way.

I don't understand!!
Someone up above said they do 0-60 in 6.4s
Most scoobies will do 5.9s or less according to the literature
where is the contest in a straight line? why do you reckon the Fiat would be quicker?

40-100 fiat will be quick - just a bit tardy off the line compared to 4WD.
oh and it just gets quicker and quicker from 100 onwards - not that I'd know
Came up behind a new STI on the M1 the other week.
Was hoping he was gonna take Jn 29 along with me so we could dance together (uni-chipped 20vt) - unfortunately he went straight on though.

Scooby 0-60 in 5.3s and 100 in 14.9s giving 9.6 from 60-100mph
Fiat 0-60 in 6.4s and 100 in 14.5 giving 8.1 from 60-100mph
I think its clear from these statistics that even a classic shaped UK impreza is toast without its launch to rely on If you ain't at lights then you're in bother

LOL
Here we go again!
A lot of 20VT's are now running with quite a few mods, from basic mods like Pressure Relief Valves which can up the boost considerably, to Novitec/Unichips with S/S straight through exhausts, uprated suspension etc etc, most mildly modded 20VT are pushing out inxs of 260bhp and 270lbs torque, so if a standard 20VT does 60 in just 6.0 (Autocar test) and 100 in 14.5, imagine what a mildly modded one will do!

300bhp 299lb ft 0-60 mph 4.6, with 30-50mph times in 4th gear 4.4, 50-70mph in 5th taking 4.9, while 80-100mph in 6th is covered in 6.5secs.
As you stated fiats aren't standard, the above is the standard STI-8 PPP but scoobys have extras too ;-) now also add to PPP package
HKS RSK
HKS VTA BOV
HKS DE-CAT
HKS Downpipe
HKS Boost gauge to maintain 1.3 bar
Knocklink
DO-Luck I/C Spray sytem to make sure all things are cool
PPP Silencer
PPP Fuel Pump
PPP ECU
I'm pretty sure that should be able to handle a fiat 20v turbo especially in the corners
rickydiver I think you '99 will do fine up to about a ton then he will pass you, thats only if you really drive the nuts of your scoob ;-)

agree with everything said. a scoob would eat my *** on the twisty stuff, no doubt. from a standing start, again unless the fiat driver is a, lucky, or b, god, the scoob will win. but rolling you are normally onto a loser, although in the real world, whoever boots it first in such cars will win. too closely matched. only scoob let down is top end ( sorry only mean the "normal" incarnations ). fiat can go off the clock standard every day and the clock registers 160...

Coming from the peage booth on the autoroute in my standard UK Wagon I had a go at one of these. We both came through at the same time I waited and then booted it when I saw he had made the move. I *easily* and I do mean easily beat him from rest and he had at least a 15meter head start. He seemed to catch up eventually at an impressive rate although neither of us had the stomach for a 200KPH plus run on the autoroute.
Traction wise these Fiats must be pretty bad. The moral of the story is the traffic light GP is an easy win, down a slip road to the motorway is possible eating humble pie territory.

Traction is difficult in a Coupe especially in 1st and 2nd, but with practice this improves, with viscous coupling and and limited boost in 1st and 2nd this should have helped the situation. However, a fair few owners now by-pass the Fiat fitted EBV and have replaced it with a PRV or Boost Controller or similar, this allows greater boost in 1st and 2nd which in theory gives more wheelspin, but with practice better response. A Scooby will nearly always have the upper hand from a standing start, from my experiences they never get more than three car lengths up and are soon reeled in.
