Is there anything positive we can do about car thefts?

Call me Mr Sceptic but what is the point of writing to your MP?
Forgive the unPCness of my next comment. It is not a slur on those referred to, it's just highlighting a point .
Unless you are a Kosovon homo with fifteen babies produced by 15 different lesbian surrogate mothers the Government and local authorities ARE NOT INTERESTED.
As for the OB why waste resources investigating car crime when you could be earning money catching "speeding" "criminals" ? Even filling in a form to record a crime seems to be a problem for them.
Friday before last M25 rush hour where traffic couldn't go fast even if it wanted to. 10 mile tailbacks caused by the OB positioning 3 mobile speed cameras above the M-Way just east of J6 with a police van and two bikes ensuring that traffic slowed to a crawl past them as people rubbernecked assuming something was up. I rest my case.
I know I haven't got the time to do it but I was thinking about the following. I don't know if it has been tried before.
Some sort of national website for stolen cars with a hotline that people could phone so that details (Time/Location/Reg no etc) are immediately posted onto the website. Set up with a nice little logo along the lines of "Formed to solve car crime in the absence of British policing".
Abuse and vigilantes could obviously be a problem
Not specific to Scoobs I know but I'm sure if a Scoob alert came up someone could copy the details onto the main here.
