Limehouse Link Camera
#1
For your info the Limehouse Link (Tunnel) digital camera was unveiled today, it goes live on 01/08, the road is dual carriageway but the speed limit is 30 MPH, no flash, and no film, just info sent by wire straight back to the camera enforcement office.

With nearly all of the 80,000 daily drivers travelling over the 30mph limit according to a recent survey, that's going to generate a shítload of money.
Ok, so it's apparently an accident spot but if nearly 80,000 a day break the limit, what does that say?

There have been some really bad accidents in the tunnel, usually at least once a week.
You can get some silly speed through there.
Sorry could.

Now if the majority of people spped in the tunnel then the limit must be set too low! 9As per 85 percentile speeds)....
And from a motorcycle courier who went that way today:
"I went through there today at 30mph. I had eight wheelers sitting on my number plate and scooters zooming up the inside (I was in the left hand lane) and everything passed me. The usual speed of most is 45 - 55, nothing goes slower than 40. I wanted to have a look at these cameras and see where they were mounted - (and not get caught speeding!).
They are unlike any I have seen before. One is about a hundred yards inside, the second just before the exit. They face the rear of the vehicles, they are yellow boxes about a foot square with rounded corners, mounted high and on the left as you proceed. Not easy to see, especially in the gloom of the tunnel heights. Not that you need to see them, just knowing they are deployed - after a few NIP's are issued - will make 30 the norm. Looking back one can see two horizontal slots like letter boxes - and that's it. Our
controller put out a warning on the air Monday am, first chance I had of going through there today - they are going to reap some financial harvest through that tunnel.
Along with the Specs type, are a battery of what appear to be new
observation cameras, in addition to or as well as those already fitted. They are ready to be wired up but at present have their cables coiled awaiting connection. "All the better to see you with my dear"
The approach to the tunnel from the East is from a dual carriageway with a 40 limit. From the West, along The Highway - 30. All traffic 'gets cracking' once in the tunnel and it's an excellent clear run to and from the Isle of Dogs. I have only once seen a jam, which was caused by roadworks. Such is the effectiveness of it's ability to move traffic, the parallel route along Commercial Road and East India Dock Road is also quite clear with only the ubiquitous bus lane to spoil it. There was a fatal accident in the Link tunnel either at a weekend or evening can't remember exactly, when some loonies went racing and piled up big time, I believe five died, that was a few years ago. Quite why it should be subject to a thirty limit is beyond comprehension. Why it will now be subject to the administrations of digital specs type cameras, is more than obvious. Another nail in the coffin of
'Police respect' ".

One of my secure units is in the Isle of Dogs a good excuse to get a "move on" in a 22b 3x an arbitary figure is achievable and sounds great
N.B. 3x an arbitary figure of 10MPH is still legal
Thanks for the warning
