03 cars sucking oil

Heard of 03 WRX owners complaining that their cars are sucking plenty of oil - are the same problems prevalent anywhere else than in South Africa. Should a scooby use oil ? My MY01 seems to go from service to service without trouble or and major drop in oil level.
