Modern cars can be extremely complex, i know ppl who service toyotas, volvos and audis, and there all constantly being sent on courses for the latest stuff on there cars, go into the back of a large audi workshop the the walls are covered in specialist tools.

IMO 99% of "normal" garages should not be allowed to carry out work on cars they are not trained or tooled up for, of course there are a few specalist places that are close to dealers but there in the minority, but even they dont have access to TBAs and the latest training etc.

Of course some main dealers are total cowboys as well.

Interesting.

There are a few Porsche specialists who are currently being denied the equipment they need to check the ECU etc - regardless of money, Porsche are just not letting them have it.

I could understand a manufacturer who has spent 10s of millions (or billions) developing a car not wanting to be forced to hand over all the special tools etc they have developed in the process, but then again you dont want the situation where they are making them on purpose to stop the specialist firms doing any work
