Hi guy's and Gals,

Not sure where to post this so i've whacked it here,

I've had an enoying noise coming from the engine area latley and have just found a big piece of plastic dangling from under the engine, i have ripped it off to stop it from falling off and was just wondering what it is used for...!!!

There is loads of plastic 'sheilding' underneath the engine, does anyone know why it is there and if it is safe to be taken off, mine had loads of cracks etc in it and looks like it is all gunna fall off soon...

Oh it's a 93WRX Import...

Cheers,

John.

Thumbs down

Sounds like the undertray, used to keep water and other sh*te out of the engine compartment.
I don't suppose the car will actually stop if you take it off, but it IS there for a reason.
Could you possibly source another one from a breakers?

I think you are right Brun,my MY94 STI just has a couple of small pieces in the front corners. No sign of a full undertray and is not a problem.

My '93 doesn't have one, & it seems to go well enough. I'll have a look & see if any bits of it are still there.

Exclamation

I and several other owners removed these undertrays to lower the oil temperature. It makes a noticeable difference if you do trackdays or drive your car hard.

The tea tray i'm talking about completely covers the entire underside of the engine.

Ok thanks for all the help, i think i'm gonna just leave off the bit that is broke, can't do much harm, might even remove the other side...

Cheers,

John.
