gothic kid - If you think this is populated by 'sados' why are you wasting your time here?

Your comment was not at all helpful and I can only hope that you are the innocent victim of a nasty crime at some point in your pathetic life.
Your hotmail account name says it all really

Newby - glad you're ok, hope the gits weren't wearing gloves so that they did leave nice prints behind.

I dont think your alarm has that feature Andy.
Yup it does John, apparently a mate has a keypad to plug in to do it

Good morning all, at around 9pm yesterday evening, I was off to a pals house after playing golf at the Trafford centre, exited the M61 at jct 4 and proceeded up the A6 towards Four Lane Ends. I stopped at the traffic lights, there was a small red car in front of me, and a black Vauxhall behind me, after being sat there for about a minute (waiting for the lights to change) I heard somebody trying each of my doors, I looked into the mirrors and was faced with three masked men trying to get into my car, luckily enough the doors were locked. I put the car in reverse shunted back (at this stage they panicked and ran back to their car, a Vauxhall, like an Astra or Vectra), I moved into the adjacent lane and booted the scoob through the lights, and off down towards Atherton.

Unfortunately I didn’t get much of a view of the ******** who tried, as they were all wearing dark clothes and balaclavas, it took only seconds to happen !!!. I always thought it would never happen to me, I suppose the lesson to be learnt here is IT CAN HAPPEN TO ANYBODY,

The police were duly informed and this morning my cars going in for fingerprinting and DNA testing (not personally hopeful) but hey if it’ll help catch the ******* then it’s worth trying.

So keep your doors locked and be aware of who is behind you. This time I was lucky !!!!

Can we try and keep this to the top for today please !!!!

Regards
Newby

Sorry to hear this M8.

Always keep your doors locked! Most alarms can be programmed to automatically lock doors on startup - do it, you know it makes sense.

Ar**holes.

Often in the area myself with my 3 year old son in the car. Time to buy a large club for down the side of my seat (Large Maglight should do the trick).

Glad you got away with it and lucky your doors were locked. I think that is common practise in the States now. Maybe we should do the same.

Hope they manage to catch them.

bttt,
What a pity you didin't reverse over one of the wa**ers, then identification would have been a lot easier, personally i've told my missus if ever this happens to her(god forbid it does) to do what she needs too to get outta there, if that means ramming the car in front / behind then so be it, or if she has to run the f**kers over do it,f**k the car that can be replaced, then head straight to the nearest police station
anyway m8 glad u got outta there safely.

Lucky man very lucky. But you got away which was the main thing.Just hope you had run over one of the scroates...
My classic with alarm, locks the car doors after 5 secs and although was pain in the **** for the first few days, im so glad now, esp after hearing stories like this.
Slight electrical field around the car once inside should be as standard.
Or a big comedy hand that comes out from under the car , gives them a good slapping (aka Monty Python) and says" **** of mate, get a job and earn the right to drive my car without being a thieving lazy drain on society git.Away with you !!"

Cheers Guys and Gals…

In hindsight, I wish I’d taken more time to have a look at the plates etc etc, but I’m afraid natural human instinct kicks in when know you’re in potential danger, I always thought I’d do this and I’d do that if it ever happened to me, and here I am today and unfortunately never did half the things I thought I would have done !!! Just pleased my missus wasn’t driving at the time, I wouldn’t have wanted any female to be faced with such potential danger….

I understand (from the Police) that they now drive you to the local till machine first prior to stealing the car !!! Can you believe that, as though I’d pay them for stealing my baby, yeh right !!!!

Still it’s good to see my experience is leading to people looking at improving the current security systems…

Thanks again peeps, and drive safely

Amazing isn't it, you post a thread attempting to help fellow scooby owners and there's always one who has nothing constructive to comment !!!!

Hey, don't have a go at gothic kid, he has probably been released under some "care in the community" scheme. It's just ashame it's this community! Anyway, it's probably not his fault that he's failed to pick the social skills that come so easily to the rest of us, nor that he fails to appreciate that we're all different people, with different interests. I can't say I'm a big fan of golf, but I'd play it any day rather than hang around with some misfit that smells of urine and needs a good hair cut.

glad you are OK. My alarm locks the doors as soon as the ignition is switched on and doesnt have any time delay, which is good IMHO.

Something i learned a long time ago from a police course i attended was always leave a gap in front of you when stopping at trafic lights etc, just enough so you can drive away without reversing first. It's a good defensive driving tip and is handy if the person in front stalls the engine too.

Being a woman I am often with my 3 kids when i'm out and about, I do worry about this type of thing happening to me.

Our security on the car automatically locks all the doors after a few seconds but I find myself locking it straight away.

You are lucky the guys didn't have guns as this is now more heard of
If this happened to me and the guys had guns I wouldn't hesitate to hand the car over, because at the end of the day you can replace your car and the contents.

(Scooby Dee using my husbands sign in name)

I agree in principle - but if you're a woman on her own (esp with 3 kids) god knows what else they'll do. Therefore I'd always follow my husband's advice - run them over if you have to, but just get away as quickly as you can & go straight to the nearest police station. This isn't for the sake of saving the car - it's just to get you out safely.

do people really know where the nearest police station is? Most of them are shut outside office hours too these days. I would go somewhere with a lot of people around, rather than try and find a police station.

yes you're right, the police stations do seem to be open at the times you are least likely to need them! But you get the general idea - get some distance between you & them!
