Did anyone know that by phoning the DVLA and claiming you require someones home address due to an accident etc they will, so long you sound convincing enough and have just reason give the address of the said registration.

I think this is ludicrous as it opens up access to car thieves etc. I know this to be true as I have contacted the DVLA and the Dept ot Transport both of whom admit the above.

Am I alone in thinking this is wrong. If not let me know as my local MP is on the case agreeing with what Ive said above.

The DVLC will give out an address on request if:

You put the request in writing
You pay £x dosh (I think £15?)
You have a good reason to need the info

 

you want to try scandanavian countries.

Some have a regularily published book with the reg of every car listed, including name, address and model of car. Dumb or what.

 

I didn't know that! I think it's outrageous that the DVLA will give out address details!

If you need an address for an accident then the police should be involved and only they should have access to the data.

Isn't this covered by the Data Protection Act, or maybe they have an exemption?

 

You think thats bad, I needed a spare key for my previous car a BMW 325 TDSE, I phoned a dealer in Edinburgh and all he needed was the chassis number - which can be read from outside the car !, I didn't purchase the car from them nor had I used them before - I really expected to have to send them a copy of the registration documents with my address on them before he would even consider sending the key.
