I've just been notified that my Scoob, which was stolen last Friday, has just been recovered. It's currently sat in a garage somewhere (sorry, I'm not going to say where). Problem is, I've got no keys as these were taken by the investigator when I saw him yesterday (like me, I think they were of the opinion the car was never going to be recovered), there's no keys with the car, it's locked up, and the police want to know when I'm going over as they want to fingerprint it (suspect it was used in a crime last night as a friend reported hearing that an armed response unit was requested to attend an incident involving a bluy mondeo saloon with a high level spoiler with a high level brake light - remove the word 'mondeo' and it could be my car).
I can't do anything until the keys arrive back from the insurance. I notified them as soon as I could, but it could be several hours before they turn up.
It sounds like all the damage is repairable (dent in door, dent in roof, couple of wheels scraped, damage to side), but there may be less visible damage. I'll know more when I've seen it.
Now all I have to do (apart from all the insurance stuff) is decide if I want to keep it or not. At the very least, I won't be keeping it at the house for the next few weeks while I decide, and certainly don't want it there while I'm away next week and my Dad is there on his own.

When things are sorted out, take it to the nearest dealer and get them to do an oil change and check everything out. I doubt the people who nicked it would've let the engine warm up/cool down and treated the car with the respect you have.
If you don't get a report then should anything be wrong with the car, your insurance won't cover any mechanical damage.
At least you got it back, and time will diminish the horrible feelings

Well, I've just been up to look at it. The visible damage is nowhere near as bad as I thought. Scraped front bumper, scraped side mirror, scraped side panel, dent in boot, three wheels scraped. There's also a bit of a dent in the roof just above the driver's door. Oh, and all the dust caps have been nicked. Inside, it looks relatively unscathed. Not sure what's missing yet - the radar detector has gone, and I suspect the cd player too. The radio is stil in place (I still have the faceplate in the house). I've seen that the extinguisher, umbrella, footpump, jumpleads are still there. Will know more when I actually get into the car to do a full inventory.

If you have the option of refusing thae car an accepting a payout then IMHO would do that.
The car is now stolen recovered and as a result has dropped condiderably in value (which undoubtedly you Snetters already appreciate).
A friend of mine had this situation and was lumbered with a car that they no longer loved He described it as being like
"catching your bird with a total stranger hangin out the back of her ****!!!" unfortuneately the relationship would never be the same again

Great your scoob has been found but I bet,you are not ecstatic. It must feel awful seeing all those dents n knowing that some baddies must have given such rough treatment to it.Get it checked out properly, claim what you need to and get it done up well before you drive it.Be much more careful next time, mate.Hope your dad's ok.All best wishes....

I know how you feel mate. I had mine nicked on New Yrs Eve!!
Mine was recovered 2hrs later 45 miles away. I got the minor repair work done and have had no problems since. Think I saw your car at Japfest parked on a corner?
Hope its all mechanically sound.
Good luck

Bugger, its one of them things do you or dont you want it back
A least you get to see it, maybe see if the insurance will pay for it to be checked engine wise before accepting it?
robski
p.s. see my groupbuy for flush fit valves, would have stopped the ****ers stealing the caps
