If my calculation is correct (1 gallon = 4.5 litres) I am getting between 19 and 23 mpg (23 mpg was an "experiment" with me driving like a granny ).

Is this normal? Could it be a problem with the car (it is a UK MY00 with 2.5k on the clock + SS backbox)???

I am particularly puzzled by such a minor difference in mpg between hard, normal and gentle driving...

Any thoughts?

Hiya,

I've got a MY 95, WRX 5 door, magnex back box, blitz induction and I get a consistant 500+km on a full tank of SUL - which I believe is around the 30mpg?

I don't blast the car everywhere I go, and I do lots of A road and motorway trips from Rubgy to Milton Keynes at around 80 mph.

Maybe I'm just lucky with the engine as it has been said at a garage it was faster than a lot of other WRX's 4 doors they had serviced?

Could it have been modified in some way in Japan?

Another point is that I check the tyre pressure (on new Toyo's TS1) is 35 psi on _all_ tyres due the amount of roundabouts in milton keynes :-) - I read this tip from somebody.

cheers

marcus

Ruski ( )

Living in the near London, not quite in the suburbs, bit of Surrey is not good for fuel consump. Means stop/start which is poo for scoobs. In fact, I would imagine that anywhere in Surrey is not good for low fuel consump! Flowing A-roads are better, with M'ways so-so as long as "slightly" congested with intelligent drivers (huh??!).

Argument that scoob was as fuel efficient as G60 Corrado was lost (with pain) in first 6 wks of ownership.

Fact of life...

As a post script to my message that equates to 22.5 mpg I believe.

BP have just released another premium fuel in Perth @ 98 ron 90 cents / litre.

I live in London and commute 12 miles each way on A roads and get 19mpg I used to get 22 mpg on longer journeys (40 miles) to High Wycombe every day. Also find that keeping my foot of the loud pedal doesnt do any good.
Have managed to get 26 mpg once on a long steady journey but have also got down to 12 mpg without going on a track !

Looks like what you are getting is normal to me !

Yep I'd say that was about normal. I average about 21/22 mpg, with up to 26/28 on a long journey.

Just thought I'd mention that I have a UK MY97, with a ScoobySport Downpipe and Backbox, along with a K&N 57i.

I get 21 mpg on a normal day, and about 26 mpg when doing a lot of motorway driving.

I know this doesn't help, except to say that this is fairly normal!!!

Andy

PS - Just had a quick word with a friend, and he gets the same fuel comsumation as me in his completely standard MY99

Yep, I've got a MY99 and get distressingly low returns on mpg. Might have something to do with the GReddy mod. Ahem.

In my experience, motorways are the worst for fuel. You are constantly on/off boost, always in limbo. Makes for sh1te mpg

25mpg avg (happy with this)
30mpg best (happened only once)
20mpg hard (but probably not that hard)
UK MY00- no mods

If you want economy you bought the wrong car - like the add for the Peugeot 205Gti used to say - "If yoy want something sensible, go buy an anorak"

Moray,

youve confirmed something that I was wondering about. I think the Imports have the brick removed from under the accelerator, purchase one and put it under pedal now!
MPG will rise quite a lot with this special "uk" mod

Std N reg UK car. Get around 220 miles per tank. Think that equates to 20 mpg or 14.2 lites per 100km.

If anyone is getting a lot more than this they are surely missing the point!

Robski,

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm touched, really I am... but I am used to driving a real 300+bhp, so a UK type performance wouldn't do it for me.

Besides, it's not just the power that puts STI's into a different class, IMHO.

Who said anything about "economy"??? I just want to benchmark my mpg vs "industry average" to make sure there isn't anything wrong with the car (engine set up or whatever)... Well sounds like on my UK car that "brick from under the right pedal" is missing

I can get 34 mpg if I drive on a long motorway journey and religiously stick to 70-75mph. I do this for work related journeys, as my company only gives me 10.3 pence per mile ! This is no particular hardship, I don't find 90 mph any more thrilling than 75 mph on a motorway.

Country lanes/towns are different, I get 20-23 mpg on average.

I have quoted (and been berated for) my buttock squirming 310 miles on a full tank, though there were about 4 and a bit litres still in it (56 odd litres to fill up). I imagine I could have gotten another 20 odd miles. 300 to a tankful is what I aim for, and I enjoy a blast now and again, where conditions are appropriate. What is that in mpg?

EEEK. have done a week on mainly urban shortish stop start stuffm, looking like 250-260 on the full tank. Thank goodness I don't have to do that all the time. These cars need some open road.

Actually I don't care, I'm just passing on the info from my MY00 experience.
