STi3's, do they suffer from piston slap?
#1
my man in the trade is sorting me an STi 3 engine for my car, but he was told by the previous owner it suffered from piston slap... i thought this was the MY98 cars??
also, the owner before said it was a leaking injector, does that sound better??
if it is slap, is that a problem or not??

Jon if you put piston slap into the search facility you will get loads of stuff. I am not a expert but from what I have read (on here) its caused by the piston being slightly too small for the bore. Which means when the engine is cold (left overnight) the piston rattles inside the bore until the engine warms up and the piston expands. A lot of UK cars had short engine replacements under warranty also a lot had just had the affected piston replaced.
