Removing Sticky Stuff.....
#1
Probably the wrong section, but here goes.... I have a Mk 2 Punto Sporting and i started to remove the door bump strips today.
All good and well i hear you say, HOWEVER! the black sticky crap under em took me over an hour to get one door done!
Is there a solution out there that doesn't strip paint?

Panel wipe as used by vehicle spray painters should do the job. This isn't as vicious as thinners although i would still use it sparingly and re- coat the area with polish once finished.

Try metholated spirits......or can you get hold of any acetaine?? that is good gear.......(not sure if that's the right spelling)
Other than that i read on here the other day that spraying WD40 on the leftover adhesive and leaving it a short while before rubbing it off will also do the trick....
Simon
Must add acetaine is a little vicious, so if you do try be carefull..... it may attack the paintwork if you are to heavy handed.

Forget all the above, a simple hair dryer will do the job like a hot knife thru butter.
just apply hair dryer for 2-3 mins and peel the sticky rubber off with fingers, you may get a blister on your finger from the friction but that will soon heal :-)

Hair dryer sounds good, anything left you want Isopropanol if you can find it also known as IPA or Isopropyl Alcohol - gets the sticky gunge of everything with a wipe or two without harming anything else i.e. paint or plastics.

Try Disolve It from B&Q, that's what I used to remove the black stuff that was holding my rear spoiler on. Didn't do any damage to my paint, but try it somewhere else first to make sure.

Agree with Redkop, tried and tested this method and works fast, make sure you've got no cuts on your hand as it will sting like ****
