Ok big up respect to the focus rs! had a blat with one about 30 mins ago, it moved over for me after only three gears ... but had a damn good go and is very impressive through the low gears.

Driver was even friendly in defeat, hence getting my respect! My is MY98 Turbo (215bhp standard) have a GGR back box and centre section.

I love my Scooby!

yeah they are pretty ****, my neighbour had one and its slow. His P1 is a different story though :P. Seems to be the day for amusing races today, had a queer hairdresser type chase me in a TT earlier, lol ok well try to chase me, was the twin piped 225 bhp one too and they really suck. He looked mighty peeved when we got to the next lights

Well I have driven a focus RS and was impressed but I knew that my Scoob had the power to do it. the worse thing thou is if the person who you had a blat with is an a-hole and get all shirty. At least this guy smiled and acknowledged he had been defeated. Had a blat with a boxter s about a month ago and after I made him move over he cam and sat on my bumber like a boy racer - I don't appreciate that!

Top motor thou the rs, for a front wheeled drive. Give it AWD and a better exhaust system and I would buy one for definate. There isn't many FWD cars that can do well against a scoob.

Yeah - sorry about tomorrow RobRoy, am out avin it large tonight with Rhybeck so will not be in a fit state to drive tomorrow, and hopefully will have a honey to keep me indoors!

I would actually like to have seen you against that Focus RobRoy, I have you dropping a gear on the M4 on my camera and the force you took of at was f in impressive, madness - you would have completely destroyed that focus! Big up respect to you ... as I said before i'm only the apprentice. You da daddy!

My MY98 is 208bhp, although I was reliably informed that is was 215bhp. I know that subaru made a change around that time period. Will have to consult the rolling road gods methinks!

Yep the change was MY99 model from 208 to 215 (I doubt I could notice the extra 7bhp) but the figures were always suppose to be a bit conservative and with the back box you should pick up a few extra bhps and even more with the decat centre. I had MY98 turbo and was my first venture in scooby ownership it was a superb car and throughly enjoyed it.

Calibra ? Well my Skoda would have given the Focus a run for its money as well (as long as no bends were involved) !

Not come up againest a focus rs yet, but did have a older black scoobie trying his luck, got my fiat coupe 20vt, into 3rd gear, foot hard down, started pulling away very quickly, so should easly see off any rs's.

scoob owner seem very interested in the side of my car, hoping it was a 20vt!

Sounds like he was still running it in, I'd say a standard 98 Impreza is pretty much equal to a Focus RS judging by these specs

I think the story for the RS should have been much like that of the Civic Type R, will get beaten off the line by a 215hp uk scooby but once rolling should have the advantage.

Against my decatted tek2 MY99 of course its another matter, and I look forward to the day I had a similar thing with a boxster S last night, he hung back at the lights, tried it on, got dusted and then didnt even glance over or anything when we pulled up at the next set of lights.

the focus rs has limited boost in the first 2 gears for improoved traction and then in 3rd it is alowed full boost i would have thought he should have given you a bit of a run, perhaps he wasn't trying

But just think, the Focus RS is a new Escort RS Turbo in a way.
So you are compering your Scooby to a Escort RS Turbo in as many words

The Focus is just a stop gap till the real thing comes out, then, well you might as well sell up and go home

in that case let us make a fair comparison to the Focus RS to the UK impreza, and the Focus Cosworth to the sti 8 from japan

lol at UHF!

One of the first Southend meets a focus RS turbo came in. He asked me why there were so many scoobs (around 50 of us waiting to drive to Southend). Told him it was a scoob meeting and he was welcome to come down with us. He said he couldnt but he would out run any of us! lmao. There was quite a few of us around 300bhp and some of us even more.

Was funny but have to say the focus RS was very nice and the inside looked damn nice. His girl was alright to

My 3DR Cosworth is Bog standard and i would say after going in a Focus RS that there wasnt much in the two.

227bhp and 1304kgs, 176bhp/ton with the 4wd transmission losses for the escort cossie

220bhp and 1267kgs, 174bhp/ton again with 4wd transmission losses for the sierra cossie

Wasnt the rwd sierra only 204 bhp ?

Focus RS 212bhp, 1278kgs, 169bhp/ton but with less transmission losses due to 2wd transmission.

Standard for standard I know where my money would go on the faster car.

{flame suit powering up}

There is one word which solves this problem of which is the best car "rain", i've driven a few high powered 2wd cars and nothing touches a 4wd car for me in the british climate.

In fact upon greater reflection does it matter which is faster? Why are we having this discussion?

I agree that why I have a highpowered AWD car and not a highpowered FWD or RWD car. Like you said previously they are built for different purposes

Question

I don't believe that a std UK impreza could beat a std RS focus!

Only 3bhp less and much less transmission losses must equal more wheel horsepower

I'd have thought it would be the other way round?

Never driven a std UK impreza but I imagine they must be slow when rolling?. I'm not talking 0-60 figures here but real world rolling along and flooring it.
My wrx (when standard) seemed slow and they have more power and shorter gearing than uk. It goes okay now though.

I had a std gti-r with (227bhp 4wd) and that when rolling was slow, modified ones i've had were quite quick.

Ready for a roasting from std UK owners

Ok, I dont think that the driver was trying that hard if he pulled over after 3rd gear...

Also, my Series 2 RS Turbo held up my mates MY98 UK Turbo with a magnex b/b from 30 to about 100(ish) and mine is running about 180/190 bhp at the moment. I would fully expect my car to get roasted by a standard Focus RS from 30-100, so using that as evidence I doubt that he was trying, either that or he was to **** scared to flog his brand new car...

Not all RS Owners want to have a proper street race and might only want a quick blast up to about 90ish (end of 3rd gear)!!

Cheers,
Grant

true, standard uk turbos are great off the line but do keep pulling but it lacks response when you're cruising at 50 and suddenly want to GO GO GO.

I fixed my one with a decat and tek2 though much better now
