do you mean antifreeze/coolant..????

It wont cool your engine properly..!! it is the water in the coolant that removes the heat from your engine..

just drain around half of it out i.e 3.5 litres as the cooling system holds around 7litres. Then add 3.5 litres of deionised water.

There is a drain tap on the lower left hand side of the radiator as you look at the engine from the front.

Thought you meant a scoob..!!!

An escort will still have a fair amount of coolant capacity. If i were you i would add more water as its summer coming up and only 1 pint (just over 1/2 a litre of water is not enough).

Thumbs up

Anti freeze / coolant actually absorbs heat better than water, it's there to cool as much as it is to not freeze

I'm not sure why you can't run it neat, maybe it's because it's too thick? Idealy it should be 50/50, I'd say an S2 would hold around 7 or 8 litres so 3.5 / 4 litres of coolant should do it

I have read that water on its own is the best at removing heat from the engine, however it boils and create bubbles in the system and thats why you need a coolant..

Water has amazingly superior heat transfer properties compared to virtually any other liquid cooling medium - far superior to glycol-based coolants
Please read here:

http://www.redlineoil.com/redlineoil/wwti.htm

50/50 mix can cause the engine to run hotter (at least the head) and leads to an increase RON requiment to prevent knock.
