My wrx has gotta go. Had one of these little things up my backside last night and couldnt get any distance away on a straight dual carriageway, upto 125mph. I hear they are very good on track and can do the twisties too.

doesn't sound like you were humiliated

Plus the Clio Cup is a fast useful little car so where's the shame in that. Sounds like you both had a good and I hope safe run.

/were you in the car with others and was he on his own as i'm sure you're aware that makes a massive difference. Also haven't they got a top end of around 138 anyway in comparison with 144 in a scoob? Not going to see much difference on a straight run. There's 155mph Vectra's out there so beware!

Don't be angered, I have both a MY00 and a Cup, and they are both brilliant.

By the way, check EVO magazine where the Clio Cup beats the Impreza WRX, Focus RS and Mini Cooper S!!!!

Plus the Impreza took 18.3 seconds 0-100mph, whereas the Cup took only 17.7 seconds.... nothing to be ashamed about, having one of these babies stuck to your tail!

Check www.evo.co.uk and search for "Cup". The article is called "Northern Exposure"...

Power to weight ratios etc means is going to be close anyway & the cup apparently is very good all round. I would expect to be in anything but a half decent power impreza.

I have a 1.9 205 gti turbo technics edition (spare fund car) which in the dry wont just humiliate an inpreza (UK spec) it will pull away from one under acceleration. Standing starts I dont expect to win tho.

Even in the "twisties" as you guys put it - the impreza will not catch up the set up is that good on the pug

The wet however is a different story lol

It makes me laugh when you get beaten fair & square by another make of car, and the old excuse is used again.
He wouldn't have had a chance in the twisties
PMSL
These days 200+bhp cars are more common and Impreza's can expect to get beat now and again, that's life.

John - totally agree

Hense why I put what i did - no doubt I'll get flamed for it lol.

I have an Evo sat in the garage (highly tuned) but sometimes its bloody good fun taking out a £1500 15 year old car that will still humiliate most things

Just get the PPP
Your WRX (i take it is a uk model?) out of the box is a very capable car, but you have to bear in mind that its also a better all round car than the cup, which is a more hardened track type car rather than an all weather road car
Modify your car and you wont see a cup in your rear view mirror

A Clio Cup has basically the same power to weight ratio as a MY2002/3 scooby & are huge fun

Clio Cup is more a competitor to the UK STi for power to weight.

I too hav had a dice with one on a dual carriageway, my MY93 has 249bhp and only started to pull on the Clio at 5000rpm, I was very impressed by the little bugger! If MrsREV didn't already have a Clio which we both hate due to loads of problems and the crap dealers, we'd have a Cup sat on the drive right now.

Everyone expects imprezas to be fast.
You cant win!!
if an impreza driver loses its "HA HA, That beat your impreza!!!"
if he wins its "Well so it should win. its an impreza."
im happy with my car for what it is, and im quite happy to acknowledge the fact that there are plenty of other cars out there that are quick also.
Deal with it!!!

Perhaps the Cup driver was feeling the same, thinking he couldn't get away from a 4 door saloon .... the Impreza has a reputation for being fast so its easy to get caught up believeing you can take on anything ... just enjoy what it does do well and have fun.

My Clio 172 mk1 goes like stink. It only weighs 11kg more than a Cup at 1035kg but has the reassurance of ABS (plus leather, Aircon etc) I have never had another hot hatch that accelerated upto 100 like this does. Its acceleration is less fast & frantic than a scooby & spread over the rev range with a nice surge after 5k. Its certainly a match for a scooby in the twisties & IMHO more entertaining. When it gets wet though it is a different story altogether & has to be treated with kid gloves.

daz34, you could always take the rear seat out! Should get the power to weight closer to a Cup. Should make for some tail out fun as well!

Power is already close enough to a Cup for me (169bhp/ton vs 171bhp/ton)

I have just swapped the part worn front tyres around with the relatively new rears. Handles better now

I sold my STI3 a month ago and got a new Clio 172 .

I have to say the clio is quick and great around corners but in terms of outright power/acceleration its no where near the STI. The Clios quick to 100 mph but I do miss the 4WD , as the car does tend to spin its wheels if the roads wet from a standing start foot to the floor , where as the scoob would just pull away and grip. Above 60mph the STI would be well away , I do miss it - but the Clio has got economy on its side as well as being pretty quick and I am not regretting the change.

I would suspect with a standard WRX /Imprezza it would be fairly even .But I know if I get behind an STI its not worth even trying !
