Question

Does anyone remember the Top Gear programme where they went to an auction of ex cop cars ?, can anyone remember where the auction was held or the name of the auction company - was it in Essex somewhere ?. As if my 5 door STI hasn't enough room - I'm also looking for something cheap to carry 6 people and I remember someone buying a T5 estate for a song.

Kevin.

A word of warning. These cars are thrashed daily and have an incredibly hard life. Carrying nearly 1.5 tonnes of kit takes its toll. The turbo`s will be tired and if your prepared to replace brake discs and pads + tyres on a very regular basis, go for it.

Look long and hard if you still decide to go ahead. Decreasing budgets may mean these cars are not maintaned as well as they should be.

Been to that auction. Oh dear. You'll need to go quite a few times to find anything worth having.

there was a letter in this weeks Autoexpress or this moinths Evo (cant remember which), showing that at least a quarter of cop cars had 'dangerous' defects, or were in for repair at all times due to the life they lead... They might be cheap to buy, but I would rather get something a very old person had pottered around in for 10 years!

DON'T DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i have the pleasure of knowing a number of traffic cops, all of whom thrash the cars regularly. they tell me the standard of servicing/repair is appaling as it's mostly done in house by monkeys who believe they are mechanics. at least 90% will have been in a reasonable bump and 99% will have had a minor prang. why do you think cops never buy ex-cop cars???????????

DO IT....
My mate regularly buys ex cop cars from Newcastle (behind the Airport) and he swears by them, he wouldnt do it if they were not a bargain.....
you get what you pay for, but they are sooooo cheap that you can afford to fix any defects anyway.

I remember speaking to a local copper when they had a 4x4 sapphire cosworth in their possession-fully badged up, lights etc. He said that because they got driven so hard and turned off straight away when they reached the crime scene, the turbos used to only last a couple of months. I suppose this applies to T-5s as well. I guess they should have had turbo timers fitted !!!!
