They come by boat from Japan so if there are some in stock in the colour and spec you want you will get one immediately otherwise you will have to wait for the next boat or the one after that if all the ones on the next boat have been sold.

Waited 1 week for MY99 in June 1999 (had colour of my choice in stock) Waited nearly 6 weeks last year for a silver MY02, had to wait for new shipment of 02 models Could have had a MY01 at another dealer but that was the "old" MY01 model

ordered my 03 wrx in mid march and picked it up 9th April (only 3 weeks).
depends how fussy you are on the spec (colour, body style, options etc) and whether the dealer can be arsed to ring around his counterparts to see if there are any unsold/cancelled orders available. i placed the order and sat there as the dealer phoned 15-20 other garages to find one. he found one obviously, hence the 3 week delivery) but could have taken 7 weeks for the boat to arrive with the new batch of cars.
if you're gonna spend 20K+ on these things you expect the dealer to do a bit of legwork.....

Ordered my Sti8 UK in Mid Janaury, picked up March 1st and got a bottle of Champers for being the first to order !!
Bought a new RB5 and got it within a week (My99)
Difference is with Special editions in those days they were already allocated to beat the import restrictions, so it was just whoever was quickest to the dealer

Another quick one here, about 2 2/1 to 3 weeks I think. Had one in the colour I wanted allocated to them, so I had it.
It does depend on the colour quite a lot IMO (ie the 'less popular' colours may be quicker as they are left unsold where as the favourite colours are snapped up).

Must say the salesman I dealt with when I had my first scoob I still see although he doesnt sell them was a cracking bloke. He had a cancelled order and he rang me first and offered it to me. Which I accepted over the phone. He also was prepared to take my part-ex 200 miles to sell it for the best price he could get. Ended up the local Ford dealer came down and made him the same offer after seeing the condition so it went 0.2 of a mile instead . Also only had to wait 2 months in the end which was really good as it was 12 months at the time due to import quotas.

I phoned around a bit for an 03 WRX with PPP fitted in WR Blue and eventually managed to get a promise of one within a week. Also nearly a grand off list plus PPP price. Offcial UK car and all that. Moral seems to be to phone around alot and play one off against tother.

I was quoted 7months wait for a MY99 turbo saloon in Silver. As it was a company car and I didn’t want the boss to change her mind during the wait, I rang round all the dealers finding one 3 weeks later. Had it delivered the following week!
