Hey ppl,

Hope someone can help, Im looking at a '93 wrx 2moro with the intention to buy. it's covered 117,000 km and has a full years mot.
Price is in the 5-6k bracket.

Need to know what to look for, engine, drivetrain, bodywork, brakes, steering, interior etc, etc..........

Any advice will be greatly appreciated!!!

IMHO!, A car with that kinda millage is a well used item, Yes and i also know they are more than capable of going alot further.

However 117k is what i would consider to be the end of a good innings, You could be buying into an exspensive project.
I could also be very wrong, And you could have years and years of trouble free driving.

I sold my wagon a few weeks back with 105k it had evey recept from new, every service was done on time, cam belts, the whole shooting match.
But i felt she was getting a bit tierd so i let her go, in quest of the new model.
I think most people will tell you the same thing, You pays your money and you takes yir chances.

But if it helps, A full scooby service history is a must. I will leave it to the rest of the scooby net team to help you with the techie bits.

About 73K miles, so should be plenty of life in the old dog ( scooby pun intended) yet. Like on previous thread today I would recommend you spend a few quid and get a scoob specialist to give it the once over, worth it for piece of mind and save you a fortune.

Yep, i said 117,000km, that equates to bout 73k miles right?

Ive just sold a '94 Calibra turbo with 98,000 miles on it, and she still impressed....

Is the boxer still up to it with 70k+?

Just need to know what to look for. Im mechanically minded so i know the basics. But i dont know Impreza's!!!

As long as it's got full uk service history from when it was first imported it should be ok. Don't be put off by the milage, a lot of imported cars have done more miles than it says on the clocks, so make sure you get that history and previous mot's if poss.

If the speedo's been converted to read in miles per hour (to pass the sva test) won't the distance go up in miles?? worth checking it is in km's, or a combination of miles and km's.

I know a guy with a UK turbo which has done something in the region of 160k MILES and it still goes well.

look for,
1/knackered drop links front and rear.approx £50.00 to fix each end of the car if you do it yourself.
2/knackered anti-roll bar bushes front and rear.gett the uprated whiteline front and rear anti-roll bars with new bushes aprox £200.00 if you do it yourself.
3/heavy slipping clutch.approx-£250 standard to £900 uprated to be replaced properly by a specialists.
4/cambelt replacement.belts around for £100 if you do it yourself.
5/leaky pas res.approx £2 for the seal but this does not always work(always a bit leaky).
6/leaking rockercover gaskets.approx £55.00 in parts bit fiddley but not bad to do.
7/front discs and pads has it had the four pot conversion if it has not it will need it.approx £400 if you can find a good secondhand set of calipers and uprated discs.
8/listen for noisy top end and knocking.
9/make sure its always been run on at super unleaded idealy octain booster as well.
10/good service history is good but as long as it runs well and nothing stands out it should be ok.
11/if possible buy from a mechanic owerner(like me)
12/a/c works,if it needs regassing its gona cost around £50-£70 to do,if this does not work it will most probably need a condenser(very common on impreza around £130 recon.
and finally what the car drives like and looks like i would avoid heavly modified cars and make sure the mods if any are done correctly and have used quatity suppliers.
