Speedo SVA question
#1
Morning troops, hopefully someone will be able to guide me on this.
I am wondering how the sva inspector will view it, if I leave the
car (import) restricted to 112 mph, but fit the speedo converter
so it will record miles covered and put on a dial that reads up to 160-180 mph.
I want to leave it restricted for the sva, as i will have a bit of leeway on the tyre rating then.
All thoughts appreciated.
Thanks
Glenn

Have you filled in the application form yet, if not where it asks for the max speed if you put 100 mph the test can only test it up till 100! So you don't have to worry about delimiting or anything this tip was given to me buy a tester at the inspectorate and all the cars I've imported have done ok.
Also If your tyres haven't got the correct rating stamps on the get in touch with the manufacturers uk office and get them to send you a letter of compliance (buy fax if necessary) if the tyres are Bridgestone I've got there no. Somewhere.
Good luck!

I found the easiest way to do it was delimit.
The delimiter was £60, really easy to fit.
Put a bit of tape over the K of KM/H so the speedo then read M/H
Still filled out the form at 112mph
As for the tyres, very valid point. Check very carefully on the tyres that there is a load rating. It may actually be a kg figure but is more likely to be something like 85v or 90w (numbers vary)
If there isn't a number and they are Yokohamas I can help with a number of a very helpful bloke to talk to.

wrxrob is correct.. when I had my car Sva'd, I had quoted 110 mph as the max speed.. but the tester wasn't happy as my new speedo face when upto 120mph only.. He failed me on the speedo (not the only item to fail by the way) as he stated that the car was capable of exceeding 120mph, even though I stated that the restrictor was still in place.. but this wasn't enough.. he was versed on scoobs and the model types etc, so I couldn't bluff him....
So, I changed my K lettering to M on the speedo face so that it showed MPH not KPH and recalibrated the face. Took it back for th eretest and he was happy with the changes and passed it..
Anyway, best of luck with your SVA..

Its one of those, where it depends on the tester, they are supposed to test to max but if you have put it as 100 that’s what they are supposed to test it at. Each tester has his own quirk and as many of you will have experienced, they are in the main ok but some are the biggest jobsworths you will ever encounter and they love to find something to fail you on, (A) because of the power it gives them and (B) because they generate more money so they look good in the eyes of there superiors.
just my opinion

Thanks for input guys; i've made up my mind to put on the
speed converter, change dial, but keep restricted for the test,
which will help in the tyre ratings.
(hopefully not giving them too much ammo with anything)
