Question

than a uk turbo?? obviously it has alot more power so therefore quicker. but what about handling etc etc, and with it being a prodrive model can you do the same upgrades as a uk car (decat zaust etc) ??? i know it holds the price better too. i'm really tempted to upgrade but wanted to make sure it's money well spent. any one gone from a uk turbo to a p1 that can advise???

gav..

p.s it does look miles better awswell !!!

I can't really compare the P1 to a UK turbo because i've never driven the latter..! All I can say is that a standard P1 is an awesome drive but a modified one with 320 bhp just leaves you speechless..! I'm comparing it to 300+400 bhp cossies that i have been in (i'm a member of the RS owners club). Don't think you will be dissapointed..! Happy Hunting!

Hi, I went from a 2000my uk turbo to a P1. The difference is quite amazing. for one the engine redlines at 8,000 rpm and pulls like a train in all gears upto that red line, something the normal turbo never did. Also low gear flexibility is so much better. it will quite happily plod around in 4/5 at 30mph, but in a uk turbo in traffic, I was always changing gear 3rd-4th-3rd-4th. As for the handling again, only the RB5 was on par with the P1 in this department. Also the P1 has a LSD on the rear, which I think the standard turbo never did. Both my cars were non moded other than the P1 having the Alcon brake upgrade, so can't comment on moded UK turbos. Also the P1 being 2 door is much rearer, and maybe the sort after one in years to come.

PS go drive one!

Another vote here for the P1 I upgraded in January from standard UK turbo to my P1 and can honestly say that its worth every penny! The grin factor is so much better with the P1. Its much more high profile than a standard Turbo (which can be a good AND bad point) It certainly turns heads and just feels so much more responsive too (agreeing with the points above). Like the guys above said "go drive one" you WONT be dissapointed. I bought mine without even test driving it its THAT good. All IMHO of course

They don't ahve any engine mods for the p1, although there was the WR Package but that was wheels, brakes and interior, oh and zorst I think. Cost a whopping 37k all told.
Try to source out one of these babies if you can

raggy above says that "only the rb5 is on a par...." (how do you do quotes on here?) and I've heard this many times from other sources and it puzzles me - isn't an rb5 just an my99 with 17in wheels? Ok, I believe it's got a non-splittable rear seat too, but surely that can't make that much difference?

If you believe prodrive and trust them to make a std car into sometihing special, then the RB5 was it. In my opinion the RB5 was the finest 4dr classic, in looks and handling. Not saying there's anything you can't do to a std car, but up against all classic uk std cars, the RB5 and P1 were designed for uk roads to make the handling that much better along with a smoother power delivery.

Just my opinion.

What do you guys think about a straight line drag between a P1 and sti8 PPP.....for 1/4 mile and top speed......and what if the P1 was modded to 320....would it leave the STi8 PPP....
Power to weight is better with the P1 so it should do it with the standard 276bhp against a STI PPP. Taking it to 320bhp would just add insult to injury .

The RB5 was a good car and part of it handling increase was the use of a STI shell and 17" as standard. For some the suspension was more suited to UK roads but then again it depends what you want. My import has the STI setup which is a bit harder and harsher on rougher roads but pays you back big style on a smooth twisty road. TBH unless you are a very good driver I doubt the RB5 would feel that much different from a UK MY99 with 17" on it as the RB5 had the same suspension as a UK MY99 cars IIRC.

Question

How would you rate an MY00 PPP, Prodrive handling package, quickshift etc then???(In relation to a P1 and RB5)
Hyperthetical question

I changed from a modded my97 turbo(262 bhp) to a 00 P1 and have to say there was little difference acceleration wise from 1st and 2nd gear, but once on to 3rd you do notice the extra ooommmmphhh.

Handling the P1 feels more direct in the twisties, apart from the performance be it handling or speed, the car feels very special...
although I do miss the 4dr conveniece.
