Which Scooby? 02, or 03
#5
I had a test drive in a new WRX today (30 mins spirited driving alone). Is it me, or are the seats cr@p? they seem to be less supportive than my old Terzo. As for the steering wheel....how big?
Has anyone else noticed this, or am I being a bit harsh?

youre welcome to it ill never get a new shape even the face lift, they may be more up to date with technology, but they heavier and look weird. Saw a P1 next to a uk300, guess which one i bought

I went for the bug eye STI and think the seats are very good. Agreed the steering wheel is a little on the large side, but I have got used to it now. I choose this over the P1 because I wanted 4 doors.
They are both very good cars in my opinion

"dont get a bugeye you will regret it"
I haven't - 02 WRX PPP - better than any of my 3 previous Classics. 9 years and one month (tomorrow), of happy UK Impreza Turbo/WRX motoring.

Suppose it depends on how much money you are willing to lose. The MY01/02 'bugeyes' seem to be depreciating at an alarming rate.
Yet to see what the MY03 depreciates at but I guess it will be less simply due to 2nd hand dealers being more sucessful in shifting the older Turbo 2000 (00 and before models) than bugeyes for around a level price (based on cost new/mileage/condition/colour/fssh and time spent on the sales-lot). The MY03 should depreciate less as it is cheaper new than the MY02 was.... let the arguments begin...

Basically down to personal preference.
If you can get past the Lights or replace them with quads, basically job done. There are going to be things to put you off on all models. For me the classic was too dated inside even though I loved the look of the car on the outside, and I hated the bugeye lights. I went for the UK300 model instead which has the additional extras over the WRX. The 03 Scoop put me off changing, and didn't find the drive any different.
Good luck with what ever you decide.

go for STi 02 with PPP and some other extras that have been added or wrx PPP 03 in my opinion
STi 03 has very harsh, stiff ride. the WRX 03 is so much smoother and the PPP takes it to just over standard STi 03 power
all depends wot u want at the end of the day and ur funds
suggest u test drive some various models and make ur mind up that way

Have you noticed no-one buys a worse car and the new car is always light years ahead LOL . Its worse then brand loyalty there mark loyalty now . Must say I am waiting for something a bit quicker to appear, hate to go backwards in performance terms.

You could always buy a Rover ZS
and have the worst of both world
loose money & no power.
Still they do it in WRblue with a f&5£ off big wing, realy looks the part don't you think ?????????????????

depends on what sort of money you want to spend.
You will probably ony find new 03's not many used ones around.
02's are plentiful on the used markets with some good examples with some good modifications (spoliers, morettes, wheels) going for 12 -14k, there must be some good low milages out there too.
over time you will lose more money buying a new 03 than a used 02 that has allready had the big initial hit of depreciation. IMHO.
there isnt much between them the 03 is slightly quicker, better mpg mainly due to 98ron fuel ecu and exhaust changes. slightly different interior. but you may not even notice the difference. The big difference is the external design at the front, but the morretes do go a long way to correct the 02's "bugeyes".
I bought a my03 because I like having cars from new but you pay a premium for doing so.
cheers
Peter

"thought you would know there loseing too much money"
How would you know? You've no idea of when and where I intend to sell it, and the kind of deal I can negotiate. Why the concern anyway?
"its the worst scoob ever made"
Hmmm. I knew I'd made a mistake buying the 02 WRX PPP as soon as I saw a J Reg Justy bombing down the road...
"if your honest you know its true"

"worst scoob ever built"
Gosh you talk such utter rubbish!
Firstly - worst Subaru? I assume you've not driven many others then... Justy? XT DL or Turbo? 1600 DL? 1800 GL? Actually, it sounds like you've never driven a WRX either...
Either way, I've no need of advice. My first Impreza Turbo hit the road 9 years and 1 month ago today (when most in the UK and more than likely you as well, had never heard of the car). I'm more than capable of deciding what is right for me and my motoring requirements. A 260bhp 02 WRX PPP is just fine...
You keep going on about depreciation? You've no idea of what deal I got when I bought the car, and of the guaranteed future value written into the contract when it goes. Or, as I said earlier, are you yet another Scoobynet "mind reader", who knows all about the affairs of people you've never met? It's my 23rd new car in 19 years; I rather got the hang of buying and selling them some time ago...
You're also another who's mistaken into thinking the car was updated so quickly. It took 2 years 5 months for the first sheet metal changes to appear on the Classic in the UK (new front end etc...); 2 years 4 months, on the UK WRX (new front end etc... ). I don't think a month makes THAT much difference.
"problem might be"
Try not to be so condescending in future. There's no problem with me at all. I like my car, and have never regretted buying it (neither has my Wife). You appear to have the problem...
How about a deal? I won't tell you what car to buy and you don't tell me... Okay?
Cheers!

Toon I had an 98 UK and wanted to move on too and really wanted a new shape even took my cheque book to the 2000 motorshow but I didnt like the lights and there was no PPP. When they first appeared there were no styling mods to change the lights and spoiler and also the PPP took a while to be available. So after driving the import the next day the decision was made. Trouble is I like the new car's refinement but I have been spoilt by the RAs power delivery.
A UK MY04 WRX RA about 1300kgs and 350 bhp and it would be on my driveway .
