Today has been one of those days I wish I'd not got out of bed. It started when my sister and mum asked me to take them to the supermarket, so the do-gooder as I am gladly obliged (any trip in a Scooby is worthwhile even if it's to the newsagents!). With those two in the back fully of gossiping away, i was still half asleep when I reversed my brand new STi into a parking meter....CRUUUUUUUUUUUUNCH...it was loud...my heart stopped. I couldn't believe what I had done, the parking meter had just come out from nowhere!!!

I got out and was hoping and praying it was nothing more than a little scratch but my worst nighmare had came true:

1) The left corner bumber (although it has not cracked) is pushed completly in and all the paintwork is seriously scratched
2) The rear wing (left side)is scratched and the force of the impact has pushed it upwards against the boot so there is a 3mm-5mm gap on one side (the tops side of the boot is also scracthed by the wing)
3) Worst of all, the rear light (at the base) is smashed with a 3cm x 1cm hole (not noticeable if you stand 1 mile away)...@_@'

I am really crying inside and so heart broken...it's Sunday today so I've not been able to get any quotes. This model is so new I wouldn't think they've even got the parts in yet!...so so gutted

Does anyone know if the plastic bumper can be pushed back out or any idea how much this (especially the rear light)will cost ?

I hope someone out there can give me some comforting words....

Crying and suicidally,
Simon

If its any comfort i had a **** day myself yesterday, firstly i had two new tyres fitted on my 18" OZ/Prodrives and the guy who fitted them had really messed the rims up.
I then get the car back from having an AP clutch fitted and its not been done right, major juddering when setting off (i had the uprated release bearing fitted too). Next saturday was booked for a link install with Bob Rawle so this will have to be put back until the clutch is sorted.

i'm still feeling sick inside...maybe it's because I can't get an immediate quote to find out where I stand and may because it's Sunday cos no one works today...Subaru should have a 24 hotline for suicidal owners

yes money and time will heal all but I just feel so helpless seeing her there in all that pain...I just hope the bumper can be pushed out and doesn't need replacing but I'm quite sure the rear light does...

I know exactly how you feel. Had my MY02 4 weeks and just got the car back from TSL after parting company with 2 Grand entered a roundabout that I hadn't used for ages....they had put traffic lights on it!! Just been raining managed to scrub most of the speed off and clacked the back of Audi A4. I cried all the way back home I kept going out to the car to see if I'd dreamt it all!!
Best thing I can say is that the insurance company paid for it all to look as good as new and nobody was hurt. In a few months it'll just be a painful memory.

richard, yes you're right! lets just look on the bright side that it wasn't a todler.

Accidents do happen in the stranges of places but this morning I was simply spoilt for choice with the number of spaces avaiable and I had to choose that particular one. that kid must have been replaced with the parking meter just in the nick of time. god works in mysterious ways, but I am seriously thankful I hit nothing else!!!

Well not really comforting, but just to put things into perspective have a look at this link and you may find that your damaged car doesn't seem quite so bad after all.
It is a pain in the **** when these things happen though, bad luck.

Cool

It is only a car! it is insured so what is the big deal!!!!!!!

Sorry to be an uncaring ******* but there are far to many posts on here about this sort of thing, if it was a relative or person then that would be different but it is only a car and these things happen.

Wuzel, this is scoobynet and fans can talk about their scoobies until their heart's content in here but I doubt you could do that about a relative or friend. It's all the more painful when it's a new car and you've just spent you're life's savings on it...yeah of course i can claim on the insurance, but do you know anything about NCD's? I think you kind of loose these hard earned points if you make a little claim like mine...dooooh

anyway, it's all water under the bridge and I'll have it fixed up in next to now time...COD of course

Sorry to hear your woes simon.
All the "if only's" in the world wont change it now
Its done and you just have to make the best of it
You could have come back and some little **** had scratched down the side of your car or pushed a shopping trolly into it
It will look as good as new soon, but your pocket will hurt for a while

Greg

Picked up my STi8 on the 1st of March, went home and found a couple of scratches so went back to the dealer to show him. Then reversed the car out and hit a car. Rear bumper caved, DOH!!!! Walked straight back into the dealer and ordered a new bumper, I had only had the car 2 hours

I know how you feel, but money does heal your pain.

Good luck.

greg, yes I know...the people down at subaru said they'll have it looking like new but the main thing is they've got the rear light in stock so no need to wait.

bit worried about the price though as they can only confirm tomorrow after an all over to see what wants doing...

Boyakasha-Solberg. I will lay claim to being the better driver as i've been reversing two weeks more than you before having to order a new bumper

Cheers duda

happens to the best of us mate, my car had been at the garage having a big wing and sills done, had been waiting 2 months to get it done and was going to some big jap car show next day.

had only been at home 2 hours when I managed to reverse it into my dads golf, twatting the front wing totally, couldnt beleive how much damage I did.

wanted to die...............

but it can be fixed, so though its hard you just have to chill out and find a good body shop

ADP, remember to get a smaller wing so you can see where you're reversing next time...LOL (n_n)

Too easy to do Slacker, sorry about the damage.

It is possible to straighten up those plastic bumpers from surprisingly serious damage and the remaining marks etc can be filled quite easily too.

Hope it is all fixed soon

Cheers les . Will be taking it to the subaru bodyshop after the weekend to get it sorted (don't trust anyone else since it's a new car). Yes the guys down there said they'd be able to push the plastic bumper out (using hot air) but can't save the back light I'm afraid!

I'll make ya feel better ... and as it's a few months on now, I can look back and laugh! - I had a 6 month old laptop corrupt itself for NO apparent reason ... I took it to PC World who said they would have to send it away for 2 weeks (I use it for business and had already had it checked by an engineer who confirmed it was would need replacing) .... having had a HOOGE argument, I stormed out of the shop, jumped in my then 3 month old brand spangly new 02 WRX, and reversed at high speed into ... a stupid, illegal, 3' high, black pole that COULD NOT BE SEEN because of the high back and spoiler. Twasn't just a back light for me (I'm not renowned for reversing slowly by any means and hit it rather hard!) - ended up claiming 'cos despite the £425 excess the damage ended up being over £1,000. At the time, I'd been driving for 8 years (and owned some pretty high performance cars), never had a crash, I get the car of my dreams and ... slam it into a post. I felt like SUCH a ****. Obviously it was all PC Worlds fault

Anyway, as everyone has said (and as I thought at the time) - thank God it wasn't a kid you or I hit ...

Interesting though, the number of people who reverse Scoobys into things - when I first sat in one in the show room the first comment I made was that I couldn't see out of the back of it ... especially not stupid bloody 3' high posts!!!

Good luck with getting it sorted though mate, and you will look back and laugh (at some point ...)

A decent insurance policy will cover you for accidental damage. And I don't mean one where you have to pay £500-£600 excess.

I have only £50 excess on accidental damage, so if it were me my insurance company would be paying.

I pay a bit more than some of the policies that folks have on here (i.e. the cheapest is the best ?????) and won't have these problems.

After all why skimp on £200-£300 when the car costs £25+

Agree with Steve - my centiments exactly (despite the high excess) were to go to Scooby approved repairers and get it done properly ... that way you've got peace of mind, and know it's sorted rather than bodged.
