I have just bought a Import WRX, however it seems to be using a load of fuel, about 14mpg, and running very rich, lots of black soot on the exaust, any ideas?

 

14 MPG can be normal driving round town with a heavy foot.
My UK MY96 went from 26 to 16 when the Lambda sensor broke.
Check your ECU for error codes, might be something obvious.
Have a look here for instructions on ECU codes.

14mpg you lucky sod if you wanted it for economical driving you should have brought a diesal

Over 10k mine worked out at 16.7mpg (relatively standard MY99) and I really wish I'd never kept all the VISA recipts and decided to ever actually work it out
