I have just bought a Import WRX, however it seems to be using a load of fuel, about 14mpg, and running very rich, lots of black soot on the exaust, any ideas?

14 MPG can be normal driving round town with a heavy foot.
My UK MY96 went from 26 to 16 when the Lambda sensor broke.
Check your ECU for error codes, might be something obvious.

14mpg you lucky sod if you wanted it for economical driving you should have brought a diesal;)

Over 10k mine worked out at 16.7mpg (relatively standard MY99) and I really wish I'd never kept all the VISA recipts and decided to ever actually work it out :(
