03 WRX PPP - Done 1200 miles, have just played a little bit.

I finally done 1000 miles and got the service done.
Im still not going full bore, but heres my initial conclutions.
Im still not trying to go past 5750 rpm or sustaining high revs for a long period, but i am using full throttle to get there.
From standing, through the gears it really does pull and with the PPP you never seem to be out of the power band (even though im short shifting)
High speed turn in is pretty phenominal compared with the GX bugeye i had, backend feels rock solid during transition too.
Low speed corners / roundabouts: in 2nd and 3rd gear with plenty of power (~5000 rpm) the car had slight understeer, just ease off the gas and its seems to slide very neutral, even if you panic and touch the brakes the rear only comes out progressivly (now how would i know that? ) all you have to do is feed the power back on and steer into the slide, nothing seems to suddenly jump up on you. Roll stability seems incredible for such a heavy car. Very impressed!
Brakes: Oh dear these brakes are no match for the weight or power of the car, make sure you upgrade them! (i will have to wait a bit)
Anyway's im really impressed with the handling, now if they could just fix down some of the interior it would be great.

ST,
What run-in?, oh you mean the 1st 1000 miles, well yes, can you tell me if 1200 is slightly more than 1000.
Whats your 0 - 60 ? 20 mins maybe 1/5 throttle after only 20000 miles?
Sorry but i thought people may be interested in the performace (only a quick play).
BTW i got the 1000 miles done on 3 tanks of fuel, ive run in 4 cars now (1 previous impreza) and all are still running perfectly well!
BTW#2 dealer told me to drive it harder! (normally im a bit woose )

Mine gets full throttle. Yes, I do advocate careful running in, but, after all, these things are already run in at the factory anyhow IIRC...
I was told by the dealer to start giving it stick after the 1k service. I am following advice

Blue Simon - just done 1300 miles in my 03 WRX PPP, I'm running mine in in much the same way. Was pretty careful up to 1000 miles, although did dip over 4000rpm on occasion, and progressively more so as I neared the 1000. Since then and since having the PPP fitted I'm giving it some stick now but not going near the redline, or nailing it for prolonged periods - just bursts and squirts really.
First Impreza and 4WD car I have owned and just love the traction out of tight bends/roundabouts (especially when you can feel it hunting around for grip).
All I can really add is
and - ooh I think I need another pint of milk, see ya!!
Oh and agree about the flakey interior too. Got my first rattle at 500 miles!

Good to read your report. I have an 03 WRX and now that I'm past the 1000 it's great to let loose from time to time, but now that the PPP has been reviewed I'm tempted to make the upgrade, especially as the 0-60 is now below the five second mark. Anyway, my question is; do you think the Prodrive is providing an obvious improvement?

Hard to quantify because up to 1000 miles I was taking it steady without the PPP, and since 1000 miles I am taking it progressively 'less steady' WITH the PPP.
It is clearly faster, pulls harder and for longer. But never drove it without PPP in anger, so never had that direct back-to-back comparison.
I don't care either way 'cos it's awesome now, sounds great and I love it

Dave,
I had the PPP from new, but the difference that i can remember from the test drive was the extra low down power that you get. I definatly would recomend it, oh and the noise....
Im quite impressed with the fact that if you want to tootle about the fuel economy is still pretty good (you can get more than 30 if you really try - staying between 2000 & 3000 RPM)

Blip,
I did the oposite when looking at changing the car (from a Imprezza GX) i looked at the Honda Civic Type R, when i test drove it my first insticts were to florr it on the exit of corners, i never seen so much tyre smoke, salesman was not amused

Thanks, but does this mean that the noise is intrusive? I know we're supposed to enjoy loud growls, but I was pleasantly surprised to have such a quiet cabin, especially since my test drive was done in a Mark2 Prodrive WRX, where there was no point in having a radio.

I always think it takes alot longer to run your car in than 1000 miles, thats nothing really. I reckon it's more like 6000 in truth, despite what Subaru may say. I think they say 1000 miles to stop you from getting bored LOL

I've got the wagon MY03 with PPP, now done 700 miles and for short bursts i've used 4500 revs, etc don't think it's gonna hurt.
I don't think it's wise to get to 1k miles and then gun it to 7k
BTW just sold my MY00 Classic with K&N induction and Prodrive BB, new car feels better on turn in, also throttle response is better from about 2.5k revs.
Car is great, had to change to 5 door to transport the dog around!!!
