Hi All,
Pentti's place in Oxfordshire would be the first choice as with SDB's help we could probably get its use for nothing
I have never been there so may not be suitable for spectating (which is important), Simon, anybody been there ? Is it any good for that aspect ?
Other suggestions for venue would be:
Silverstone Rally Sprint Circuit as it has excellent spectating facilities, but I doubt we could get it for free without major blagging. Also doesn't have that authentic forest stage feel. But I guess spectating and forest stage are mutually exclusive.
Other suggestions would be ? Jump in here guys.
Cheers
Ian

Ian,
I have not been to either place but have seen the Silverstone Special on the TV. Plenty of variable terrain. Large spectating are is a must as thats' part of the fun IMO.
Regarding the Blagging, didn't you say you had a PHD in Blagging? Silverstone RSS, that sounds like a PHD type blag to me.

Pentti's place is basically a big airfield with loose and tarmac all over it. Loads of places for spectating, but not authentic as in trees, etc. (I don't think we should worry too much about this though).
SSS would be fantastic, especially if we get two top driver who could battle it out with a passenger in each time, imagine that!!! but...
The course is actually not that good as a rally stage, the turns are not ideal for loose surface driving and they are very tight in places making it easy to fall off and do some serious damage. I have a feeling there would be reservations about this, but....
The rally school stage at silvertone would be ideal. It's authentic looking and feeling, fast in places, twisty in others. If we decide this is one to talk to, I know a few of the guys there and could give them a call.
Cheers

Er how about some of the rally schools, they are usually laid out for spectators, forest experience etc, or even sweet lamb I know its a way further out, but its a purpose built rally stage !
Just my 1/2p worth !

Before we second guess too much we should probably wait and see what the likes of Prodrive would be prepared to do - they will obviously have their preferred test ground and it may make most sense for it to happen there.

Sith,
Tis true, I could attempt a blag of the SSS, but from what Simon says, maybe not.
Rally school may be better and by the sound of it would leave that one to Simon.
In fact, Pentti's place doesn't sound too bad
Cheers

Just another idea to throw into the ring - but looking a bit further ahead - if we do get round to organising these events on a regular basis (and I see no reason why not) - there is going to be a new race circuit opening next year - the Rockingham Oval
