Don't know what year you're looking at but make sure it's started in front of you/the inspector(?) from dead-cold..ie overnight sitting. Piston slap was a bit of a problem for MY98-ish cars and is really only obvious on cold startups.

Shame you missed out on mine

The buyer for mine (Chrome) wanted an inspection, and was based in Nottingham. He was going to use AA, who wanted 250 quid for the pleasure of a roadside assitance and a 3 month warranty...

We ended up using a specialist (TSL) who did an inspection for 50 quid + VAT which gives more peace of mind IMHO as these people know imprezas inside-out as they look after them day-in, day-out. If you can, try to arrange an inspection with a specialist down your way. it put both of our minds at rest.

I don't know what the deal with piston slap is, but I don't know anyone with an MY00 who suffers. Apparently, it's not bad for the engine anyhow, but I could be horribly wrong on that?

Good luck with your imminent purchase

Hi mate! I would recommend the AA inspection, for that price you get a thoroughly documented inspection of everything....it saved me buying a badly repaired one for 12K so I was really appreciative (it was for sale in a Mitsubishi garage!!). The only problem with the aa inspection is probably the most important aspect....the HPI check. They dont use equifax so I would recommend using equifax as a final check if everything else is satisfactory.

Good luck!!!

Thumbs up

AA will charge me £159 for a FULL 2&1/2 hr intensive mechanical check, from head to toe. The history check is being done for free by my mate who is a copper.
Thanks for all the advice peeps.

Hopefully ill be postin "new owner!!!!" soon! then ill start my mission for the 18's!
Dan
