I've had my scooby now for nearly 7 weeks and have experienced a reasonable amount of mocking from various other road users (namely Ford drivers and white vans), which I know I never had when I owned a 306. For example, whilst out driving yesterday, a dual carriage way merged to a single lane due to some roadworks, I found a large gap in front of a Escourt which I safely but briskily merged into. When I looked in my mirror, to my bemusement the occupants were laughing and pointing - had I merged recklessly then I might of understood their mocking. So what was this all about?

Another example, last week going through the Tyne Tunnel a white van decides to drive right up my ****, after having had a glimpse in my mirror, I see some meathead and what I think was his fat wife looking and laughing away. What was his problem?

Now I know I'm not being paranoid, I know I don't drive like an a$*%hole, but I do know that the collective opinion of people I work with in the office is that I have a boyracer car. This p*sses me off, because I'm 28 and not a boyracer. Could owning an apparent 'boyracer' car be the source of the road mockery?

Have you checked that someone hasnt put a sticker on your boot lid??

Or maybe you've got one of those stupidly HUGE exhausts that looks like you've got a dustbin wedged under the rear.... I laugh at those myself

So you think I should remove the neons then? And I thought they were really cool!

No neons, no flamekit, no stupid stickers and no dustbin exhaust! It could be my pink hair?

I was going to say I thought it was jealousy, but didn't want to say it.

I get it all the time in my MY99 UK Turbo, but then again i am only 21 so all of the 'Boyracers' are jealous! I dont mind it if it is harmless ie. what ur on about...i just caine it off! Its when it gets serious and a group of 5 skinheads jump out a fiesta behind u some lights!!- Then there's no f*ckin' need for that!

They're probs just trying to taunt you into caining ur car, when i had my Paxo i used to do that if i saw an Evo or a Scoob just because i liked to see a fast car being driven 'properly'!!

The jealousy thing is strange, do you think people who drive Aston Martins and Porsches etc get mocked in the some way?

Like I said before, the scooby appears to have a boyracer image. Do any older scooby owners get some sort of mocking?

I posted a thread on here when the incident happened!

Basically i passed a car on an express way (2 lanes), didnt cut it up or anything 9pm quiet roads. Was driving to Asda, got there and it was closed as this was around Xmas, realised the car i passed on Express way was following me, it also pulled into Asda and then followed me out.

Anyway we got on another express way, i was goin about 50mph and this Fiesta pulls alongside full of lads hanging out windows give abusive hand signals etc, they pulled infront of me and slowed right down....i was just with my g/f so wasnt gonna hang around, so pulled into outside lane and floored it! I came off the slip road i needed, the car followed and just my luck there was a car at the junction at the bottom of the slip road waiting to pull out at the junction so i had to stop. Fiesta pulled up behind, doors flung open and lads came running towards my car, once again i wasnt gonna hang around to suffer a beating and was thinking of the saftey of my g/f also so nailed round the car infront of me and across a double cross roads, traffic coming both ways.

I was so annoyed after the event as it was completely unprevoked and you dont know what people will do now-a-days!

It is so sad that people have to do stuff like that, it makes you think it's pointless having a nice car if ur gonna be subjected to that sort of ****, but you cant let them get the better of you!

I overtook the ubiquitous 'white van' (actually it was a flatbed) on a single-carriageway straight road between roundabouts -- obviously when a suitable gap appeared. When I got back to the left-hand-side I could see the driver clapping both his hands above his head in a 'mocking' fashion (let's ignore the fact he had both hands off the steering wheel....)

I could understand if he was taking the p1ss if I'd overtaken him then got stuck behind a queue of cars (no real point in overtaking then), but ahead of him it was clear to the visible horizon

Needless to say, I didn't hang around long enough to find out what his problem was

I suppose unless you've driven a Scooby then you won't appreciate the fact that you just don't sit behind traffic when the roads are nice and clear ahead, the car just wants to go.

Try using that defence on the traffic officer that's just stopped you...

The porsche and ferrari lads get it as well.I got it quite a lot some time ago so I started going different routes home to avoid a brick being thrown of the car etc etc but when I started to do this another set of young lads started clapping and shouting "nice car mister" everytime I went past them which makes you feel better but slightly embarrased as well.

A couple of weeks back I was stopped at traffic lights and there was a young couple in an Escort behind me. I saw them both looking at my car and laughing and then the bloke made the "little dick" gesture with his little finger

Note to self: wear clothes when driving in future

Hah! I drive a ratty old Escort and no one looks at it with envy. However, as I happen to work very near a major BMW leasing facility, I am often in traffic with very nice BMWs whose drivers have no idea how to operate them as they were intended. So I frequently have the pleasure of blowing away cars worth 20 times as much as mine.

I don't think they ever sold this version of an Escort in the UK, the ones I've seen in various websites look nothing like the Escorts here. This is a 1.9l, 5-speed, very easy and fun to drive. And no one expects anything from such a cheap old car.

(My other car is a 98 Outback, that's why I'm here on a Soob board)

This is why I got rid of my scooby! Ive had 3 and when I got the first it commanded huge respect but it seems to me too many to##sers have them now and their reputation is very low. I felt like a bit of a boy racer in the end.

Had the same thing the other day, me and white van man at the lights, I had to move away fast from the lights to get into his lane before it threw me off to the right (Theres plenty of room to safely make this manoeuvre by the way )
Some people will say that I shouldn’t be doing that in the first place. Well... im not a patient driver but I will never risk endangering anything or anyone while im driving.

Anyway.... the lights change and I set off fairly quickly, white van man decides to have a go needless to say he was left standing. I moved over to his lane with plenty of space between me and him, look in the mirror to see the mank sat there laughing to himself.
I think they laugh because they know they look foolish if they try to have a go and get left for dead, same goes for the overtaking, the only way they can react to being left behind is laugh in an attempt to hide their raging jealousy inside

that's my theory anyway
