When is 'Delivery' mileage NOT Delivery mileage?
#1
Took delivery of my MY03 WRX on the 1st March and was a mite bit disappointed to see it had 30 miles on the clock already...
I was the first person to test drive the WRX & STI at my local dealer and noted that they had 5 & 6 miles on the clock respectively.
I'm wondering if 30 miles is within the realms of normality for delivery mailege or not, what is your experience?
TimboMY03 - Hoping his new Impreza hasn't been used for the odd test drive...

7 miles on mine.
If you've had any extras fitted then I would expect the car to be driven in order to check it out.
I'd like to say that I honestly wouldn't worry about 20 miles, but there again after shelling out 19-20k on a car, I would.
My MY00 had 25-odd miles on it, but aircon had been fitted by the garage which necessitates a test drive.

one of my fill in jobs during my abortive 6th yr at University was delivery driver/trade plater. All the lads and I ignored rev limits, running in etc and screwed the **** of all the cars from mile one. Looking back I see now what a bunch of tw*ts we were but you can bet things are just the same today. Personally I'd go and collect my new car from wherever it was rather than letting some underpaid idiot have the privelege.
Having said that the delivery job was excellent training for my next job as Vectra Man- scourge of the dual carriageway. Vectra 2ltr Sri brand new- bouncing off the rev limiter at 3 miles on the clock- the aircon "fell" out at 150 miles on a speed bump- I rejected the car at 1200 miles when the gearbox failed and swapped into a Mondeo- it lasted for 300 miles before someone decided to vandalise it- probably because I parked/abandoned it for 3 weeks outside someones house while I p1ssed off on holiday to Jamaica.
Ahhh happy days.

You were lucky! mine had 53 miles on the clock when i picked it up.
But they had fitted a PPP so they must have gone and had a play i was a bit pissed off but after waiting for five weeks just wanted to get behind the wheel and have a go myself.

Picked up a new bmw 320ci on tuesday with 7km on the clock - this mileage would be from:
driving between stations in the factory, loading onto train/truck, and around into carpark space at delivery warehouse.
If you collect from a dealer I guess anything under 50km would be ok. More and I would question it - but of course no-one would know...

Bear in mind that from the factory, Scoob's can't be thrashed. They come out in "slow as hell" mode and are setup properly when they get to the Importer/Distributor or sometimes, by the dealer.
For this reason, any thrashing would have only been done by the dealer (which is unlikely!!!)
Matt.

Don't the cars have a set number of miles to do before the mileage starts getting recorded?
Not sure about Subarus but I picked up a new Fiat from the docks, with 0 mileage on the clock and it stayed like that until 50 miles had been driven. The tripometer was working fine, that is how I knew how many miles I had done before the mileage turned from 0 to 1.
If that is the case, then maybe the cars have already done at least 50 miles before we get them!!!

there is no set limit on mileage when delivered to the dealer i've seen some as low as 2 and some as high as 20 so 30 isn't that high really i think if it was above 50 i might question it .when we used to get prodrive to do the upgrades they always done a minimum of 60 miles to check it out that took some explaining to the customer!!!

The official answer used to be 800 miles. However this was before mileage correction electronics were introduced.
