I have a 96 WRX STi.....normally if you are driving down the motorway and you take you foot off the accelerator the car tends to de-ccelerate quite rapidly, what happens sometime is that the car de-ccelerates very slowly......And then when I come to a halt the car idles at about 1500rpm. Also, when you are going thru the gears the revs stay really high.....has any1 else had this problem? Or does anyone know what it could be?

OOO I WAS JUST GONNA POST ABOUT THIS!!

mine does sumthing simmiler
normaly notice it when im pottering about town on very light throttle

the revs will drop fast when im off the throttle but then stop at 1500 for a bit b4 continuing to drop

sumtimes they drop a fraction below 1500 and then come back up to 1500 for a bit b4 dropping again

they always drop eventualy
sum times it just drops and "normal" and theres no problem
its a niggly thing
doesnt spoil the driving and if i hadnt had a rev counter i probably would never had noticed

i thought maybe the car was getting used to optimax as its quite a recent import
also i had a 60 000 service done last weekend and a k&n pannel filter and ngk plus were fitted which i thought might sort it out, but it didnt

ideas people?

Nah not yet......I might get my m8 to take a look at it soon. It's starting to get on my nerves.....Plus it's embarrasing when you pull up in a nice car and it's over-revving, if ya know what I mean

Not a mechanic but could be somat to do with the throttle cable sticking??? Try revving it by pushing the lever in the engine bay and see if it does it then

Thumbs up

My MY97WRX also does this, I have taken the Idle Control Solenoid off and cleaned it (make sure you mark its position before removing) this didnt do much for it, then I sprayed in loads of carb cleaner into the air intke port of the actual stepper motor to try and clean the spindle, this did make a difference, but the problem has recently reappeard, so I would also like some ideas as to what to do next.

Editted to say driving slowly round town also seems to bring this problem on.

wierd!!
same as me then
creeping about does seam to bring it on!
looks like we all have the same problem here

can u be sure that spraying the carb cleaner in did fix the fault or that it just decieded not to show itself for a bit

have u sprayed carb cleaner in scince??
where exactly did u spray it??
thanks
apart from this and the fact i need new discs and pads im 100% happy with my new purchase
