3rd party warranties?

Older car YES,
eg
Bought my '92 MR2 in may 2002, dec 2002 lost all coolant doing 130 ish came to a halt...car spent a month in the garage had new cooling fan, new water pump, cambelt changed, couple of relays replaced, oil changed, coolant replaced came back better than when i bought it cost = £0 as i had a £300 years warentee thrown in when i bought the car, a toyota dealer fixed charge for cambelt change is £350 let alone the extra bits and bobs, figuring why it went pop in the first place.

Scooby Regular
Never heard anything good about these, save your £400 (or whatever) and use that to fix anything that *might* go wrong, scoobs are quite reliable you know. The amount of small print in those warranties means that you can't claim anything back anyway, stuff like:
You must keep it serviced to within 1 day or 1 mile of the specified service interval by a VAT registered garage (6 months or 6K miles) i.e. 6002 miles and you've no chance
You cant claim for manufacturers defects, and funnily enough almost every fault can be classed as this
You cant claim for wear and tear, which covers all the other faults that arent manuf. defects
If you don't believe me do a search on here for warranty holdings (and others) and see what has been written.
edited to say I was exaggerating about the servicing bit, but only a little

Warranty Holdings dont bother but Warranty Wise is very good but there price reflects this, from memory it was about 600 a year for my MY98 UK Turbo with 35k on it.
In the end, I didnt bother I just save a little bit every month to hopefully cover any problems. I've also got a parts and labour warranty with my AA cover, it basically pays the first £500 of a the bill. Might be worth looking into.
Cheers
