Question

In the all mighty quest to make my car better I am at the stage where I have enough power. Thus I contemplating my next overdraft spree on brakes or suspension.

As I can only afford one at a time and it will take a further 3 months to afford the purchase of the other.

I have the dilema of choosing which one first?

Brakes first, as always. Before you can go any faster, you are much better off if you can stop effectively.

Which car do you currently have?

If you have a 2 pot setup then definately brakes first.

If you have a 4 pot setup put some Pagid pads in and then get the suspension done and then the brakes. With the upgraded suspension then you shouldnt need to be braking as much to get round the same corners!!!

Thats my 2 pence worth although Im sure there will be alot of people with different views.

I understand that uprated brakes will give me longer fade free performance, but will improved brakes make me stop that much better than my standard ones under normal use?

I would definitely go for brakes first, especially if you intend to go on the track at any time in the future.
Having said that, 3 months isn't that long to wait though, so I don't suppose it really matters does it?

Do the brake thing - then you can slow down quicker before the corner that you need the suspension for....

I don't agree!! I'd buy decent suspension - that will also improve braking anyway but you make the brakes good enough for road use by fitting some decent pads.

I did suspension first... brakes will come later. I wanted and needed a better suspension set up as I "race" the car -

It now corners better, handles better and i am very satisfied w/my decision....

My initial instinct was suspension, as Darren mentioned earlier in the thread, this would increase through corner speed and decrease braking necessity.

I say this not as a speed freek, but until now that has been the consensus (spelling?) of opinion.

I think maybe a set of pads and the suspension but now I am unsure. AHHHHHHHHH

I did the suspension first, but i had to as i have a TypeR

Plentious Oversteerious into bushious.

Car performance outstrips the brakes now, I dream of Brembo/AP on a regular basis.

Sorry about the <B>'This as well'</B> link people, there was no secret password. A small edit of the code has opened the door, have a look now.

Decent brakes were my number one priority, what's the point in race suspension giving race corner speeds if you can't loose the race speeds when/if things go pear-shaped? Also, what's the point of racecar setup that can't make more than a couple of laps without brake-fade?

Sort out your brakes, AP or Brembo or Tarox are all good stuff. Spend a little getting the best out of your standard suspension by getting is setup properly (e.g. ring Rich at Powerstation).

Decent brakes will improve your safe rate of progress more significantly than the average horsepower boost.
