New Impreza shock - AE Scoop - Radical New Look !!

Have you seen it yet ?
Looks a lot like the Mazda RX8 don't you think ?
Can't say I'm overly impressed anyway... bit of a massive change of direction !
Mind you 400bhp and AWD sounds fun !
(Just noticed that my other thread doesn't mention the "NEW" Impreza... its just says The Impreza...silly **** !!)

The rear view is not too bad but the front end is awful. No grace or any appealing kind of line about it as well as the poor design of the grille etc. Looks like a copy of an Audi or something. I much prefer the look of my classic.

There's a two page spread on it in Evo (so much for AE's scoop), although we're unlikely to actually see one on the road until 2005.
It's getting a flat six, twin turbo, 400bhp lump, but can't use the STi's 6 speed box, as it can't cope with the torque on the new car!
Not too sure about the styling myself. Too Alpha for my taste.

Just noticed - the back door handles are at the B pillar - are they suicide doors?
*edit* - just seen other post - they are indeed. I thought they'd been outlawed in the UK?
And that front end - get it in black and it's pure batmobile

At least it's different (for Subaru). Am I the only one that thinks Subaru shadowed Toyota's Corolla model year for model year?? Agree it's Alfa at the front and "son of 350Z" at the rear. I like it (apart from rip-off grill).
But it is striking. Subaru are gonna lose sales to Mitsu when they get those new mental small platform Evos into showrooms. Poor old Subaru would be left with a model range that suddenly looks 10 years out of date.
Still love my classic '99 Turbo Wagon, though.

SUPERB!!! put my name down for one NOW!!!
No Gold Wheels or BIG (I've got a tiny *****) SPOILER!!
Subaru have grown up - match up the style of an Alfa with the reliability of a Subaru and you have a winner!!
Due out 2005? Who would buy a new Impreza now looking at THAT!!??
10 out of 10 Subaru!!

Beemer_Deano > why are they called "suicide doors" ?
I think the reason car-makers don't use them now though is to do with the risk of them opening whilst moving, but I stand to be corrected

Doesn't the new RX-8 have doors like that?
I quite like it though!
Buy an Impreza now, upgrade in 2 years

Maybe I need to look at it again but its got to be very un-aerodynamic with a front on it like that! Imagine having to clean the dead flys off that in the Summer Some dead flys may improve its looks tho!

What is it with Subaru? They just can't design good front end's to slave their worthless lives.
As with the current Impreza, the profile is nice, and the rear is also well proportioned but the front...
I mean WTF were they thinking? Anyway, it's a concept and I doubt it'll ever see production. Place your bets here. I'll give 10 - 1 odd's that it'll ever see the light of day on our local Subaru forecourts.

Seems to be a trend recently for "suicide doors" - I believe they can be legal with appropriate interlocks to ensure they can only be opened with the front doors or stationary (or sumfin )
