P1 With V5 Spoiler!!?
#1
My mate just bought a P1 and imported it into cyprus, all very good but it has a V5STi spoiler, im sure i read somewhere that this happened due to running out of P1 Spoilers or something like that and u could change it for free (part exed of course).
Anyone know if this is true and how do u go about doing it, who to contact etc. car was bought privately.

I havent heard of a P1 without a p1 spoiler mate! The old p1s could be change free of charge to the later p1 spoilers which had a carbon lip on it.
Where did he buy the p1 from? I would have a moan!!!

The P1 was not based on any particular JDM model.
Below is some info that I got from Prodrive:-
The P1 is not based on any particular Japanese spec car.
In simplistic terms the spec is
2 door bodyshell
STi V6 4 door running gear inc abs etc
European electrical system
Special catalyst
Fitted in the UK were
17" wheels and tyres
Revised springs
Front & rear spoilers
Driving lamps
Alarm etc

I'll stand corrected on this but i think i read it on the P1 owners club site. Some of them DID come with an STI 5 type spoiler due to manufacturing problems. These could be change FOC to P1 spec. after some time and owners were allowed to keep the STI 5 one too.

Hmmm
I thought the P1 was based (loosely) on the STi 5 Type R. I'm sure it appeared too early to have been based on the 6 in any way.
As for the spoilers, I remember that some early cars were sold with STi 5 spoilers because they couldn't produce them quick enough for the initial launch. I'm sure IM would have kept track of those hadn't had them swapped over so you could ask them.

i thought the sti 6 came out just after the p1. it says in the Jap mags that the STI 6 was produced as the p1 was made only in the Uk so basically the STI 6 was a Jap version of the P1

from http://www.iwoc.co.uk/p1h.html part of the IWOC site which has an extremely concise how the P1 was developed and built section starting at http://www.iwoc.co.uk/p1.html
P1 was first delivered in March 2000.... and as mentioned above the STi6 was well out by then.
