Does the STi 8 have a change up light on the Rev Counter.
As I have read a couple of posts from guys with STi 7s who talk about setting there change up light to 6500 revs or 7000 etc.

I was never able to find the instructions in my owners' manual (to which Dave T-S referred me with some acidity
) Its the little **** on the dash cover to the left of the odometer zeroing button, and is well hidden by your left hand when you adjust the odometer, so not immediately obvious.
