Is 12k a good trade in for a MY01 WRX Euro Import against a MY03 Sti. My car has WRX plate, morrettes , PPP and only 13.5k miles. Should I ****** his hand off or is he taking the p**s?

Christian, I'm not really interested in selling privately especially for 12k. Its not worth the hassle IMO, unless its for at least 1k more. Selling privately brings issues in itself like Test Pilots, timing it so I am not without a set of wheels for too long etc.. Thanks for the offer though.

Yoza, I had to push for 12k he offered 11.5k at first. The car is in A1 condition as well, apart from the odd minor stone chip it is in the same condition as when I got it. I asked for 13k but he said if it was a UK sourced car he would go to 13k. If I decide to go for it I will try and get either free or reduced price extras to try and make up some of the loss.

Thumbs down

£12 seems fair if you strip off the PPP, Morettes and private plate.
This little lot could then be flogged on for about £1000.

A mate of mine bought a 02 UK spec with PPP for £14500 about 3-4 months ago, 6 months old low mileage

So 12K for an import seems about right, not that I like to say that. I got more for my UK300 PPP, but that was £26500 to start with. Probably nearly £8K more than you paid for yours with PPP. You can't have your cake and eat it. A dealer will always try and recover what somebody has made on buying an import. They will all be the same. I would take the private buyer option or shop round a bit more

Well, you get less for an import of course - but then you got it for £00,000 less new didnt you?

I would want £12k P/Ex for my MY00, but then mine is a UK car and is the Classic shape.

Not much market out there for a Bug Eye Import I wouldnt have thought? I would ****** his arm off myself!

IMHO

Sounds very fair, considering... I think you've got a good deal. As mentioned, you might get better privately and then you can haggle as you're a cash buyer?

it may be an import, but how many dealers will fit it with a Uk handbook, manual and service history?

bet they would, no one would ever know either.

either way, I reckon 12k isnt bad all things considered

It doesn't sound too bad considering..

Your MY01 would have cost you minus extras about £16500.

A UK MY01 would have cost £21750.

16500 - 12000 is only £4000 loss in 18 months.

21750 - 13750 for the UK car described below is 8000.

I doesn't look that bad when you take that into account.

Nathan..

A friend just got offered £14K for a non-ppp 02 import with morette-type headlights, standard exhaust and 12,000 miles on the clock (he got rid just before needing the 12K servce and car tax was due - so saved himself a few hundred quid) when upgrading to a UK STi 8.

Have you thought of trying to get about £1000 for the PPP in the for sale section and taking the car back to the dealer minus PPP, he will still probably offer £12K without it - there is your £13K.

Which dealer was it??

He is taking your trouser's down, sell it privately my dealer offerd me 12k (MY01) against a new 03 WRX, when he had a 50,000 miler classic (P plate) with no mods at all and an incomplete history up for 14k.
I dont care what the dealer says classic or Fugly there is no way in the world his 'P' plate car is worth more than a '51' plate car with 18k on the clock.
Guess what i've still got my MY01 as there is no way i'm getting shut for 12k.

Adams offered me £16.5k for MY01 UK300, which I was disgusted at. For a car they only made 300 of, it didn't hold it's price very well. I would be insulted at the £12k offer. Subaru have obviously stitched us 01/02 owners right up.

Sounds like a very poor deal - push very much harder. When I bought my Sti7 last year I traded in an MY00 V Reg with 45K on the clock. The difference in price between list and trade-in was at least 3k better than you have been offered!

Sounds about right - although try and sell the PPP separately..
Dealers stick to the principle mods are worthless to them or at least when buying from you, rather than selling on.

4-4.5K sounds about right for over 18months motoring...

I sold my '01 UK WRX for 16.5K when it was about 15 months old with 20K on the clock, it had OZ 18"s, quick shift, morettes and body kit on it.

ouch, £250 per month in depreciation!
Why do people still buy new cars?, surely better off waiting a while and buying a year old model.

Sounds about right in this current climate.

PSLewis,
A work mate has just bought a MY00 Classic shaped Wagon (Registered in Feb 01) 16000 miles by one local private owner form a Subaru Main Dealer for £13000. Owner couldn't afford to run it and now has an Impreza 1.6l Wagon

They also still have a MY00 Wagon (Registered March 00) with 40k miles for £11000.

I thnk you wound be lucky to get £10 to £11k for yours against a new WRX and its not a wind up.

I don't normally voice my opinions on these matters as it seems to boil down to area, yours and the salesmans abilities to negotiate and whether the salesman has had a good month or not.
I was offered last month £13k for my uk MY00 great, so what? well it's got 44k on he clock, it's been modified and it was filthy when i took it in (Didn't know i was going ) I think the thing that confused them was that it's an MY00 on a Y plate. I tell em the reg, they assume it's a MY01, tell me how it's a shame cos the classics are worth more before giving me a humourous figure, i then tell 'em that it's a MY00 "classic" and hey presto an extra few grand They can't offer me less 'cos they just said it was worth more .Needless to say, had i have gone in telling them it was a MY00, i'd have got the old, "well.... new they are 18 grand so it's gonna have a knock on affect with yours, what with it being an OLDER model
If they "need" your car and they are behind on thier sales quotas, the deals are there to be made. We know they are because people keep getting blinding deals and thinking it's a fluke, it's not, it's skill and timing
Now i don't know if this affects anything but I was looking to part chop against a used P1 (Not likley to be new is it DOH! )
I agree with PS Lewis on this one (Miracles do happen see )

All IMHO and not designed to single handedly affect the resale price of everyones car classic or otherwise (For the better I may add)

Question

Has there been a shift in policy - I didn't think dealers would take Euro P/xs

A car is worth what you can sell it for. See what other dealers will do - it could be better.

I agree with the your selling it privately comment, but it may we worth a try to see what you can get. There's always the trade in to fall back on.

Nigel,

A dealer may refuse an EU import saying he has too many Turbo's on the forecourt or saying he has too many red cars etc but it would be illegal to have a policy of refusing to buy, sell, service or perform warranty work on EU imports.
Because of the severe punishments now being given out by the courts manufacturers can't penalise dealers for selling new imports either, some Alfa dealers now have new EU imports sat along side new UK cars in the showroom. I saw two 156 in the same spec and colour with £5600 price difference.

Grey's and non-EU cars are a different matter though.

Thanks Lee. I think what I really meant to say, was this sounded like a reasonable offer - most of the talk on here has been of derisory offers from dealers. This sounds low, but as the owner of a Euro MY01 this would make me think about a p/ex...if I had the money

ive got a euro my01, & i WOULD NOT take 12k for it, bare min has to be at least 13 mate, specialy on a px for an sti8. if you can afford to not sell it privately then fair enough, personally if i could achieve the 13 even 13.5 in the trader, say you spend a few hours with possible test pilots & or serious buyers its got to be worth the extra £1k hasnt it. like i said though if you can afford to bin a grand?
