It may seem like an obvious question to you lot, but when exactly was the 98 spec car introduced ? ie start of 98 or with the S Reg Plate etc. Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I tested a 1998 R Reg yesterday that was 97 spec (It had a misty history, to say the least though).

Cant tell you what month, but my MY98 is an R plate, the MY98 is easy to spot as it has the newer interior with buckets and white dials

The model year (MY) was introduced at the end (Septemberish...) of the previous year.
So a MY98 car could have been registered in late 1997, however, so could a MY97!
The MY98 has the new dash, with white dials and 2 airbags. Both the MY97 and MY98 had bucket seats.

This had buckets, don't think the new ones though (no harness slots), black dials and a leather wheel with the subaru motif on, but it had 16" wheels and was apparently registered April 98.
Does this smell a bit fishy ? when i tried to get an Insurance quote the Reg No came up as not recognised. WTF ? Apparently it was first registered in N Ireland then registered in England Jan 1999. This all sounds wrong, doesn't it ?

True, true..... the car was really nice tho, full service history, 50K, £8.5K, one doctor owner (till this dodgy dealer got hold of it) it's still got 2 months extended warranty left too.
It had a subaru branded radio-cassette.... anyone know when they get rid of these ?

Hi 98 spec came with while dials, bucket seats...so this is def not a 98 spec.
obvious place for all details is www.sidc.co.uk/faq.htm
get an HPI check if you really like it

I had a MY97 - they have the bucket seats but a plasticy steering wheel and no passenger airbag.
The MY98 has white dials, passenger airbag, momo steering wheel etc.

Does sound a strange combo but other main difference is look at the door panel if the leccy window buttons r on the vertical door panel bit then its a MY97 if it has then on the more horizontal part of the door handle then MY98 also 98 has the elbow rest thing & a slightly different dial lay out as well as colour (already mentionned being white n all) as i recall Oh & there shud also b a tweeter grill on the door panel if 98

My boss has a P reg UK with the buckets etc (same as in my MY00 but different trim). I assume it is a late MY97 as its a P.
He has the black (analogue trip counter) dials and no ""binacle-useless-piece-of-crap-replace-with-psi3-unit" thing on the middle of the dash.
It also comes with the facelifted bonnet (2 vents on either side + slightly different shape scoop, same as my MY00).
