I didnt know that Sports were made outside of uk ????
Only thought they were made for the uk market, lets see if someone else can put any light on it.
That would mean, what engine exactly is it, in the import ??

There is no Impreza Sport in Japan, but the engine u're offered can either be a SOHC 2.0 that came out from a Legacy Brighton (135ps & more or less identical to those in UK cars), or a DOHC 2.0 that came out from a SRX (JDM version of Sport). The DOHC has 155ps & it's basically a non-turbo version of the WRX engine.

Best to ask him exactly which car it came out from (Impreza SRX? Legacy Brighton? Forester C20?), whether the ecu is included in the price, & whether the donor is manual or auto. AFAIK, all variants of the EJ20 (except the twin turbo version) will physically fit into the engine bay, so getting the thing in should not be a problem.
The problem is whether u know this engine has been thrashed previously or not, & whether the vendor will include all ancillaries (i.e. ecu etc).
