Advice required,
am wanting to purchase a new WRX or an Sti. I drove the WRX and loved it. I will be driving the Sti8 tomorrow but won't be able to sample the full delights of the car as it is still being run in.
Ignoring price can anyone give their own opinions for the two cars if you have actually driven either/both. Is the Sti (Standard) THAT much quicker than the STI?
It would be much appreciated as the cash is burning a hole in my pocket and I want to be a Scoob owner!

IMHO, it's not just about quickness, it's about adjustability.
The STI seems to give a lot more feedback and be more set up to "delight" the driver (sorry, can't think of a less ***** way of putting it) through that feedback and adjustability

m8 if you have the money go for the STi.
I think you meant to say is the STi quicker than the WRX = Yes
But you have to look at what else you get such as Great brakes, don't you just love Brembos. Great Body kit and interior ned I go on.....
Good luck

Thanks chaps, hopefully the decision will be made after a test drive tomorrow, my main concern was that the engine needs to be worked higher up the rev range for the car to come to life than the WRX. (from the limited info I can find on the standard Sti8) Anyone know any better?
Cheers

That is correct, all it means is that the turbo does not kick in quite as early as on the PPP version, but compare that to the car I am driving at the moment whose power doesn't kick in till 5800 revs!!!!

The PPP STI 8 that I've driven has shedloads of low down torque.
The only downside IMHO is the suspension, which isn't too firm, but it's too "bouncy" - some bumps will set the car off bouncing, which I really didn't like at all. Hard rides I can cope with - I don't think the evo is too harsh - but that was just wierd.
Hence I ain't going for the STI personally, but I also really want the practicality of the estate. Horses for courses
Enjoy the ride, and take time to drive it and enjoy it, rather than just think "cor it's fast" , if you know what I mean. It was a motorway at speed that really upset the suspension...

Had the test drive. The car had 250 miles on the clock but the dealer actually still alowed me to open her up fully a couple of times but not over a sustained period. What a fantastic car. The ride was definitely firmer than the WRX but was still fine for every day driving. The steering feel was very sharp indeed and once you hit 4000 the thing flies.
My minds made up, I'll place my order for a black/gold combo.

by the time u have spent £600 on tracker, £1500 on brakes, decent spoiler £500 (std one is so dreadful on the wrx!) then you have bought the sti with 225ps not 265ps... £1500 aint alot for the extra power etc. I think more sti's will appear now for that reason, remeber before xmas a brand new wrx was 18995 and the sti close to £25-27K - a far bigger difference.
I reserved my sti8 yesterday and drove the demo today - wow, makes my 97 PPP seem ordinary!

i had the choise of driving both
the wrx and sti..
i didnt even bother driving the wrx!!
i have had 2 "02 wrx" as courtisy cars
while my classic was in for service
i wasnt impressed with either
felt like a fast mondeao
wallowed all over the place
i must admit the brakes were good
and it did felt "fast"..maybe because of
the very soft ride..
i think subaru turned a great car(the classic)
into an old mans car (new age)
but...i did drive the sti8 and it is on order
will be here "mid-march"
till then the dealers (cvc cardiff)(free plug)
are loaning me a brand new wrx
i wanted to keep my classic but they said
i would put to many miles on it(800 miles a week)
so now i will be able to see if subaru have improved
the wrx's ride...over a longer period than a short
test drive
i will let you all know how i get on
andy
ps..going to have the sti ppp'd once it is ran in...
i want to feel the difference i know it will make

If you didn't drive the WRX then you will not realise how much of an improvement they have made to the car. For £20k there is nothing to match it, not even the RS or Golf R32 IMHO.
