Hey all,

Last night I was driving home from after dropping the missus off after a night out in the local night club, and upon exiting a roundabout (it has a ridge which takes the road off camber) the weight of the car all went on the rear and the back end stepped out........... I managed to ****** it back to which it went in a pendulam effect to the opposite way, and then again in the opposite direction, only the third time I wasn't so lucky......... I had gone too far to ****** it back, then all of a sudden................... everything went in super slo mo........ smack front brand new 18" P1 rim hit the kerb, followed by the rear, then it started knocking to a stop.
I got out of the car and was sorely tempted to kick the doors in in a feet of rage but then I just thought of more expence.

My car is an STi v5 Type R........ has this ever happened to anybody else ? basically, the front and rear wheels are just cosmetic damage, but not the worst of injuries to my car, but the front and rear wheels have a major positive camber on them....... speaking to several people that they think that it would have been the bottom wishbone that has gone, and that they are apparently designed to give way so that nothing else goes on an impact of this type. Can somebody else clarify what could have gone on my car and how much they think it might possibly cost me to get repaired ? I definately dont want to go through insurance as it will sting me........ somebody give me some good news cos i am on the brink of fixing it and then selling it for something cheap and cheerful and calling my passion for cars to an end and getting myself a boring car again.

Cheers,

Scott (Utterly on the brink of mortal depression)

scott you need to get the car jacked up and wheels off look for any aparant damage ie look closely at the bottom arms and strut it will be very ovious if something is bent replace any thing that is not 100% and then drive the car straight to a geometry specialist to check if all is ok you can normally tell as soon as you drive if its not right hope this helps shout if you need any advice.
oh and dont forget to check the steering rack and joints .

look man,
don't stress to much. i know its a pain, but this sort of thing does happen. don't even think about selling your beast!

i really doubt that you have caused that much damage. maybe a couple of suspension parts. the rims are the things that will cost! are you gonna have to replace then?

i too have had the mad thought of sell the thing it is causing grief, but come to my senses a few hours later!

can't offer any advice re the actual repairs, but am trying to make you feel slightly better - think about all the fun you do have in the car.

cars get bent, and cars get fixed.

part of the rich tapestry of the automotive world! hope you get it sorted.

Cheers for the advise all, i'm currently waiting in for a plumber to come round to fix my boiler then i'm ringing the RAC to get my car transported to RC Developments to be analysed and get some 2nd hand parts fitted to it, I might even ask if them minded if I tried to do some of the work myself to cut back on the labour costs !!!

Sellin the Type R is really a bit thing on my mind at the moment once its been fixed, the only thing thats stopping me is the fact that i've just spent over 1k on Exhaust and Induction alone and it hardly seems worth it to sell it so soon after getting it fitted (the exhaust was on for 3 days before crash)
I'm not sure if the rims need replacing, they just look like they need repairing, they haven't shattered or anything, just badly kerbed. Not sure though how much it will cost for repair of the 2 rims ? We'll see I guess, i just need to get the car drivable again as soon as poss as I am due back in work tomorrow and I need a way to get back and too to work until its fixed.

Thing is, i'm just slightly worried about whether I can afford the repairs or not as I just forked out a load on the exhaust etc......

Cheers anyway all,

Scott

Really sorry to hear about that Scott, can happen so easily in those conditions, and to any car too.

Hope the damage is not too severe,or too expensive to repair. The damage is more likely to be re the advice you've been given, the scooby floor pan is very strong.

Dont sell it though, I know its sickening at the moment, but if you sell it you will always regret it.
