Considering a Scooby
#1
I am looking at a Scoob as a family car to complement my Honda S2000
I am a little nervous though regards car jacking and general theft as the wife and kids will be in it most of the time on their own
Are all these stories re the above blown out of proportion. I really want one but......

Sometimes blown out of proportion. But..
Dont have a scoob yet but the current alarm i have is a clifford on my car. My mate does car security and has wired central locking to activate when the ignition is turned (solves the car jacking..or the door opening to do the car jacking)
as for theft , a good alarm , tracker combination will solve that , also visual aids such as a disklok always help , you can get more done aswell...

I am female and drive a Scoob. Usually when I am driving I am the only one in the car. I don't feel particularly like a target, imo the risk is small, and certainly not enough to stop me from driving a car I love. I did set my alarm so as it locks the doors automatically when I start the ignition, but that's all.

I guess it depends where/when you drive. There are some general safety ruls to follow, but these shouldn't really apply more to a Scoob than any other car (except maybe a C-reg Astra
Make sure you always lock your doors, be careful when returning to the car at night - who's around? Don't stop too close to the car in front at traffic lights - leave enough room to manouvre round them. Just be generally vigilant.
Just re-read this and it sounds a bit paranoid, which I'm not! I'd say that generally the situation is not a problem, but there car-jackings, some of which are for Scoobies. But 99.9% of Scoob drivers wouldn't even have their cars stolen let alone car-jacked.

Depends on the age of car your interested in but the classic shape tend to have a Sigma M30 alarm which can be programmed to lock the doors when you start the car and unlock when you swith the ignition off.
As regards just Subaru's being jacked, your just as likley to be jacked in any expensive / "nice" car.

again without trying to sound paranoid- I agree with Mungo - if you are worried about getting jacked then one of the best things you can do is leave plenty of space between you and the car in front at the lights. therefore you can't get boxed in (aparrently a common technique) and smacked
having said that I am a London scoobie driver and have not yet had any problems (fingers crossed)

i thought i would be getting pulled by the police (as I'm 20 and don't look that old ), but i've had the car 3 weeks (MY00 Turbo) and not been a problem. The cops do tend to try to get a good look tho..
Depends how you drive around town etc i spose.

I commute from North Oxfordshire to Richmond upon Thames in my 1 year old PPP'd WRX Wagon and to date I've never had any problem with the police (famous last words I know).
I've never felt particularly at risk from car jacking etc, though as a matter of course I always lock the doors and leave a reasonable gap ahead when in traffic queues. Some would say "who would want to car jack a bugeye anyway", but mines got Morettes.

Afternoon zero_to60, you may recognise me as neil_s2k on the s2k board!
I haven't had any security problems with my Scooby yet, but I do live in quite a quiet area. You may be in for a shock in terms of running costs after the S. Servicing seems to go between £360 - £600 plus for main services, and I seem to be filling up every 200 miles at £40 a tank.
I picked mine up from a main dealer for £12500 in late November. MY00 turbo (classic shape), 37500 miles, one local owner. Feel free to PM me on the s2k board if you need any advice.

ScoobyDb,
To enable autolocking, turn on vehicle ignition, press the remote button once, type 4 on the keypad and then immediately turn off the ignition.
(same procedure but with 5 to turn this off)
Just tried it on my MY00.
Cheers,
Ian.
