Question

I'm sorry to ask - as I'm sure you all know what one is ? - I keep on picturing a bootlid with a spoiler in the shape of a gorilla with its arms up in the air ! I know I'll start taking the pills again. Has it got something to do with Turbo's by any chance - any comments ?

Philip,

It's a small animal that lives in your boot to automate weight transfer during cornering.

Here in the States we've built up a lot of experience fitting & training trunk Monkeys.

Benefits: will definitely improve turn in during harder cornering as they move at high speed across the trunk.

Problems:

Genuine Sti Trunk Monkeys have to be run on high octane Asahi Dry beer. They throw a fit and explode on anything less.

Domestic aftermarket Trunk Monkeys are nearly as quick across the trunk and will run just fine on domestic beer.

One serious warning.. A drunk Trunk Monkey quickly becomes unruly and will need regular slapping.

Yeah, philip getting trunk monkeys serviced can be difficult, if rumors are correct US/UK spec Trunk Monkeys run fine on a diet of ordinary bananas from your local Supermarket. However the ones on the STi's from Japan will be the "Trunkey Gorilla Sporty Tea Trolley Goodness" which althogh it "Helps the nose to point well into the corner" need a diet of harder to find "Super Bananas" more commonly known in this country as the Plantain.
Currently these are quite hard to find, availability being limited to small shops in West Indian/African areas. But it is not all bad news as I have heard that Shell petrol stations are considering stocking them if they recieve enough requests.
So all you STi VII owners get emailing Shell and demand "Plantains for my Gorilla"

Actual Servicing is straightforward, but IM will refuse to service them anyway. In fact DIY servicing is actually reccomended as weekly visits to your dealer to empty the waste tank would be pricey. Most owners are planning to take their cars to the local marina where specialists are available in this line of "rather smelly" work.

I'm currently trying to source a pre-production version to evaluate their usefullness on British roads, and will report to members as soon as I have reached an opinion.

Do you think we could clone a Trunk Monkey ?
I dont know if this would bring any advantages but it sounds like a good idea - someone bring the required tools and equipment to donnington and I'll hold onto the said "trunk monkey"

You guys are being ripped off. You can get a Trunk Monkey for half the price in Holland. Runs perfectly well on Heineken, runs like a b@stard on Oranjeboom, just don't keep your stash in the trunk

Talking

What ever you do don't feed it Millenium Ale, it takes on a permanent list, which results in severe tyre wall scrubb on lefthand turns. Well it did on mine...
