Last week a few of us had the same thoughts and donated the money we pledged to Comic Relief in the form of GiftAid.
http://www.comicrelief.com
Comic Relief recieved 295 pounds from EvilBevel, DocJock, dba and JohnR.
Taz recently had a relative pass away because of cancer, so he donated his 25 pounds to Marie Curie Cancer Care.
So that's 320 quid donated by the guys in IFG Club. World Pay receipts are available if required.
This isn't a dig at the organisers of the charity thing, we just felt that the sooner charities get the money, the sooner it does some good.
When I pledged the money I thought it was a case of do the deed, send the cash, charity is happy. Obviously it is more complicated, but IMO there is no reason why this money shouldn't have been in the charities' pockets ages ago.
I'm also sure they don't care if they get it all in one lump sum or individually. It all adds up to the same amount, no ? Do it as GiftAid and they avoid the tax too.
I'm not being melodramatic when I say the pledges don't mean **** if the cash is sat in our pockets, so we decided to do something proactive
