Guys I have one thing to say to you too
and it's not for a change
http://www.m161fhr.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/doormirror.wmv
is one of the most competent and professional pieces of motoring videos I have seen.. Subaru should use it as a promotional piece..
Oh and the driving ain't too dusty either
Excellent work both of you..
Cheers.

The music fits it really well.
Did I see some cones on the track just before Adenau Forest?
Anyone own up to be the Sonic blue Scoob parked(?) on the track at 8mins 30?

Excellent stuff.
Just wish I could drive that well, or even play more than greensleeves on the guitar. I loved the lighting on the lap, very moody and forboding.
It's a shame Subaru did'nt let you two put together the ads for the new car.
How long did it take to put together?

That must have been a huge amount of work to get it all put together that well..
Suggested title ... Moody Blue..
Well it's catchier than "STI V RA LTD at the Nordschliefe"
the really scarey thing is the words kinda suit it being JF at the Ring
"and nothing else matters"

I thought doormirror was a perfect title. However I would have ended the video by a fade out rather than just stopping. But then again what do I know about these things, about as much as I know about the inner workings of an aircraft carrier.
Incidentally is there a high res version for the non bandwidth challenged?

Agreed it is an excellent version. Goes so well with the vid. If no one had mentioned it was Theos own work I would never have been any the wiser.

John, is this you? I recognise that dodgy blue colour balance anywhere I dont remember this shot from your tapes
- do I have this take for the full on vid...? This shows the track position and racing line well as it has reference to the static car's wing - would look great as a split screen with an interior shot!

Thanks chaps.
Yes Diesel, this is me. It was made after i sent my tapes to you, wasnt sure it was posible to add in as it's late in the day after you digitising all the other footage, i'll get it to you tomorrow mate! I dont have an interior matched video on this one sadly, as i was in full stealth mode. Oh, your mail is knackered, i keep getting bounced!
Believe it or not that just kind of happened after Theo and I were chatting last week.
I had that lap from my last trip to the ring in November, but the audio was screwed up due to a micraphone problem. Theo sent me a 6:30 audio clip he had made a while back. He is an acomplished musician as you can tell. I thought it was outstanding so mixed the vid and sent it back to him, sort of as a surprise. LOL
Problem was i needed 9:30 to get a whole lap, plus the start at the barrier and finish, so theo remixed it to be 9:30 and sent that too me. I then recut it to mix the music and video, took me about 20 minutes. And thats what you see.
I dont know why, but the whole mood of the video works, it was very cold that day, very much a winter in the eifel mountains. leaves all over the track, patchy areas of water etc.
The Cones at the bottom of the foxhole are there because a Porsche destroyed the barriers so they were no longer safe for another impact. you can see the damaged barriers just after the bottom of the compresion. The porsche ended up at the top of the hill where all the sand is.
The stuffed Impreza is a french guy i took for a lap as a passenger with me, just the lap before, i think he probably tried to take the corner like i do and ran out of tallent. He was lucky to just damage his front right corner/bonnet.
There is a higher res version at http://www.johnfelstead.co.uk/videos/Sti5TypeRARingDoorMirrorNov2002.mpg but its a fairly slow server.

Ta for the kind words.
We first tried it the other way round: me driving, and JF playing his instrument, but that video was truly mindblowingly boring LOL (and 12 minutes long )
I would probably have to check with their management to see if it can be put on the video though Remember it was 'tallica that started the Napster case
Not that I quickly "ripped" it from a website mind, it took me about 3 months to do the recording (live drums, bass, guitars, voices... only the keyboards are, well, keyboards in my garden shed "studio". But it is their song...
As a coincidence... Metallica will be playing on "Rock am Ring" this year (6/7/8th of June), found that out a few days after JF made this video.

Evil, dont worry mate as you are already in deep trouble with the publishing people for putting the song on the web - hope James Hetfield is not a Scoobynetter
I think in reality they have bigger fish to fry - err Russia doesn't pay any music royalties for example!

Vid is going to be later than anticipated as some Dutch have descended on me and I have to sort out a new music TV prog in Holland within 4 weeks! Bloody sales team too efficient and spoiling our Scooby vid plans I hope it will be worth the wait!

John and The Evil One,
Cracking production guys, just sat through the whole lot and I must say the the music does go and go very well.
Pity the driving was $hite
Just a suggestion that next time you go John, try and get the camera a little lower, i.e. try to get the top quarter of the front wheel in, or alternatively use a shorter lens if you can, but not too much as it looked about right anyway.
Cheers
Ian

It's not that easy ian, to get it any lower i would need a proper external camera mount. Problem with that is filming at the ring has been banned recently, so thats going to be a bit dificult to do.
It was good to have you along for the ride stef, just leave your walkman behind next time.

Just downloaded the thing in question.
Fantastic, simply fantastic - love it. The music is brilliant, and fits perfectly. Theo, you have my respect mate. The driving isn't too shabby either
Thanks for bringing my attention to this Richard, I wasn't going to bother with a 25 mb download but it really is worth it.

Unfortunately yes Ian. Nurburgring GMBH have now banned the use of video cameras on public days. They decided to do this after someone posted footage of a fatal crash up on the net.
I hope this decision is reversed, mainly from a safety perspective, as you can learn a great deal from your onboard videos. Videoing the lap can also stop you thinking about timing too, as if you want to see your lap times you just review the lap later, rather than having a stopwatch running and having a figure there you are aiming to beat.
It's also useful to have a video rnning in case you have an incident with someone, that way you can at least review the footage and see why that happened.
They now have marshals manning the bariers looking for video cameras.
