Question

Hi Guys,

Would be interested if anyone else has had this prob!

UK300 MY01 when going round any corners now the boot hinges are making an almighty noise.

Yes I have been giving it the occasional lateral G inspection ) but assumed the car could hack it!

Apart from that the car is A OK.

Yep i've got it.

Is yours lowered or sitting original? Mine is sitting on a set of Eibachs.

I'm about to try rubbing some hand cream on the rear door and boot rubbers, don't know if it will work.

Check it's not the wheel brace rubbing on the spare wheel.

Question

I get a strange knocking noise from the boot on my 98, but can only really hear it when the seat backs are down.
I had assumed it was the tensioning rods that run across the boot hinges?
One day, I'll get round to taking my youngest out in it to check:

I get a sort of metallic scraping sound fro mthe left rear when i go round left-handers in my MY00 and no-one seems to be able to find out why. Suggestions so far have been: dodgy damper, dodgy wheel bearings, braided hoses rubbing on suspension, split bushes, exhaust moving around on mounts .

Its getting louder so on my way back to the dealers to have another look.

Thumbs up

After a bit of fiddling around we found the problem. When taking left-handers the exhaust was moving around and part of the metal hanger was pressing against the mounting bracket. Vibrations from the engine at certain rpm then set up little resonances which made the two bits rub against each other - hence the scratching.

Simple fix, just pushed a little piece of bakelite into the rubber hanger to lengthen it a bit and stop the metallic bits from getting together.

Glad it wasn't anything expensive.
