What would you buy STi8 or Evo8
#1
Ok,honest sensible opinions please.I'm considering a JDM STi8 or JDM Evo8.The Type C RA does'nt count as I need AC.Evo has addressed the fuel tank issue and has a fmic as standard and also has less 'issues' with fragile engines. Both seem to cost about the same (JDM )ie £26k from Iain Litch.Looks should not enter into it as that is secondary to ability.

Don't know if I'm being Blinkered but you seem to see more about the Scoob than Evo , ie with mods, bits n bobs etc
So will go for the Sti8 and have one on order
Just something about the Evo I'm not sure about, but still a fantastic car, so don't think you would be disappointed which one.
Maybe the scoob is a better day to day car to drive ?

If I just wanted an extreme car to drive on the odd occaision, I'd go for the Evo, but I need a car to drive every day, so I ordered the STi 8 - only a couple more weeks to wait

think the evo has gone too far downt he ugly path and the scoob has made an attractive comeback. It is finally a close match between the two.
Would have to be a jdm sti8 though if a scoob at all.
evo6 v sti 6 was a no brainer. evo 7 v sti 7, was insulting to even look at the scoob. But now, the impreza is looking very attractive as a car as well as an ownership prosprect.
It has some serious technology now, has caught up diff wise. the standard engine is seriously impressive in terms of what power it can take. variable valve timing etc.
My gut reaction is to wait until the jdm gets the 2.5 from the states and then buy one of those, that without doubt is the one to have!

If I had to buy now I'd get the JDM STi 8. As Adam has pointed out there is a lot of new technology on the new car and I think it's going to surprise the Evo. Looks and interior wise the STi 8 is a much better prospect.
The Evo is a cracking car and if I didn't need to use my car daily for work then it would be a sorely tempting package. However I do and for that reason the STi would win especially when you consider, fuel, servicing and insurance costs.

Deep,
Here we go agian... JDM Evo8 gets AYC, which, AFAIK, means it likely also keeps the small fuel tank.
They have been working hard to keep the performance while making it more liveable too according to whispers around here, but no one is betting it will have the numbers on the STi except the people concerned with pure performance (there are lots of "speed is everything, damn the potholes, charge!" types here).
And the JDM STi has not lost the growl, it is just a drier and sharper sound as a result of the better flow, very nice IMHO.
And reliability is not something the Evos are well known for here...neither car likes being modded on the cheap, and the results are plain for all to see.
Anyway, either is gonna be a ripper car, the world is a better place for having them both, so enjoy 'em.

BanzaiGTti: I was a t Powerstation yesterday, and there was a guy there with a JDM STi V2, getting a Motec system remapped. It sounded fantastic, and the biggest shock to me was to find it had equal length headers on it. The Scoob sound is dead, long live the Scoob sound!!

Seems like quite a few votes for the Evo,thats saying something coming from the Scooby faithful!
Iain,I'm not going to ring you,it could be a very expensive call!!
AdamM,I agree the 2.5l will get here eventually.
AJBloke. You say that the JDM Evo gets AYC so small tank.Does that mean the UK one w'ont have AYC?? Also you say that Evos are'nt known for reliability over there.Cheap mods aside, what have the issues been?
Many thanks all,Deep.

Deep,
I dunno what the UK'll get or not. And I said "AFAIK" & "likely" coz I ain't seen the new Evo yet.
The one thing that is certain is that the Evo8 will be another very fast car. EOS.
What issues have they had? My response on reliability was really a general comment on the fact that no high perf cars like being tuned on the cheap, and Evos are no worse or better than the Scoob when poorly treated (and admittedly the Evo may be faster and run higher boost when they do go pop).
I may be biased against them because 3, yes three, have blown up and ruined trackdays I've been at. They all spat their guts out and dumped just every bit of oil they carried onto the track (obviously I have not followed up on what went wrong, but it was obviously major - an E4, E5 and E7 were the culprits). I should add, that those are the only times I have had track time cut down due to mechanical failures among the many trackdays I've attended.
And I think you really want an Evo, so what's holding you back? For all out performance they are generally quicker, so if that is the aim, go for it.

Well, well, some info on the 8 just landed on my desk...
And I owe Mitsubishi an apology - they redesigned the tank and made it 55l on the AYC cars, too.
Highlights: the 6 speeder looks good, the RS is even lighter than before (20kgs), better aero dynamics thanks to new nose and bonnet, super AYC can move double the amount of torque around and the programming is improved for less understeer and more predictable handling), HIDs are std, the rear wing is carbon, torque up 9 Nm, response is improved and the whole drivetrain has been upgraded for better reliability (notably the water pump, rods and propshafts have come in for special attention). The underbody aero has been tweaked a bit too.
I reckon that = 1 x Evo 8 for Deep Singh, with a full side of options

I like the look of the EVO on the outside, but the inside makes wormwood scrubs look inviting. I'm sure the Mitsubishi engineers were having a large sweepstake on how cheap and tacky they could make the interior look. The scoob looks like a Bentley in comparision. My Grandads Maxi had more appeal.
I personally couldnt face driving a car each day that looks so poor inside. Its an insult to modern motoring.

I'd plump for the Scoob because of I'd want to use it everyday. I've driven neither and people at the dealerships just look at me like I'm something they've just scraped off their shoe One even asked for a "financial background check" before I could go on a testdrive (granted that was at toyota though).
