Hi guys, turned engine over this morning and it won't start, worked fine yesterday. Turns over fast but doesn't fire, when turning the key i hear a click under the bonnet, should i be able to hear the fuel pump as well ?, never seemed to notice these things when it's running ok.

what MY? - If it pre 97-98 then this was 'fairly' common. Go back to it an hour later and it usually fires up straight away.

It usually did this just as the breakdown man arrives, he jumps in, vroooom, and away you go looking like a *****!

keep the car turning over, then gently press the accelerator to the floor and gently back again. It should start if its flooded itself.

Sounds stupid I know but this happened to me a few years ago (not in scooby)-

Turned car over- battery seemed fine when checked- still wont start. After a day of head scratching I noticed that the petrol feed had disconnected- I'd been slowly bleeding petrol on my last journey in the car and now it had none left! therefore it wouldnt start. A long shot but check it out.

If it has flooded, then crank the engine with the accelerator fully depressed. It should catch within about 5 or 6 seconds, when you should release the accelerator. The car will idle roughly for a few seconds (you might need to blip the throttle to help it along).

If this doesn't work after a couple of 10 seconds worth of cranking, then chances are it's a different fault

You might want to replace the water temperature sensor, this is what can cause it to flood, theyre about 20 quid and not too hard to swap.

Another thing that can cause this is if you start it from cold, and just run the engine for a short time. Something to do with the catalyst not getting hot enough, and flooding the engine. After a cold start you need to run the engine for at least 2 minutes...
