All I can say is thank you to Essex Police for wasting everyones time!!
The A13 west bound traffic was travelling at 0-20mph for 6 miles because of this instead of the usual 50-60mph during rush hour this morning. This added about 20 minutes to the journey time of that stretch and also meant that because everyone was now late the speeds of alot of vehicles along the following sections of the A13 were definiately in excess of the national speed limit. Thats smart policing for you!!
Also if the traffic reports from Essex FM are accurate the was a small accident in the outside lane in that blocked it, some where near to the site of the camera van. So it didn't help raod safety either.
The van itself was similar to the ones sometimes seen in Southend where the cameras are hiden behind flaps in the back doors.
Guess it was going to happen as a squad car was parked a laybay between Stanford-le-hope and Basildon on Monday am, obviously checking speeds. Ready for the revenue exercise.
Anyone else who is using the A13 should know that they normally sit on/ near the bridge after the Stanford-le-hope junction east bound, they also when travelling along the A13 nearly always turn off at evey junction and rejoin to lul drivers in to speeding up just do they can suprise them from behind!!!!

Mitch - yeah I was in the tail-back too
Cheers for the info about the other favoured positions - that stretch can be quite "quick" out of rush hour...

Its amazing how much time and effort the police throw into watching cars.
they wana sort themselves out and find some of these missing girls and the dodgy minicabs that r raping a woman a day, think thats more important.
all these speed traps and cameras just seem to cause more accidents and traffic then there would be without them

Guys, these are NOT speed cameras. They are for tax disc evasion. They slow the traffic down by their very presence, take pics of the car and its reg and then check if it has tax!

It got better than that. Everyone braking upon seeing the van, heading west bound, resulted in an accident just before the camera, albeit on the opposite side of the dual carriageway.
It took me an hour to cover 5 miles.
Nice one

I saw a permanent gatso on the uphill side of a steep A road the other day. It wasn't mounted in the middle of the road so it wasn't even as though they could turn it round !!!
